RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
You'd think that losing a Home Secretary in a bomb explosion would rate a mention even on Spooks...

RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
I just watched this and it was pretty good (actually really good!). I like the addition of Beth. For some reason I always like characters that kick butt (one of the reasons why I like Ros) (but I've liked all of the protagonist characters so far, regardless of whether they are involved in action scenes or not). I'm still a bit saddened by her character getting killed in the last ep, but still liked this ep quite a bit. Nevertheless, I am a bit surprised they didn't mention the last HS' death...Huh

The beginning really shocked me though. Harry killing the old HS. I didn't quite expect him to poison the old HS (Nicolas Blake), but Spooks is always filled with surprises. As for the storyline of this ep, it was really exciting too (esp when its discovered that the real threat are the submarines). In addition, I like how the show went into the ethical debate about whether the ends justify the means. I find that Spooks does a good job of covering the dilemma involved these kinds of ethical issues..

I thought the introduction of Beth and Dimitri was done well, neither are who they first appear to be. Loved those little submarines rushing through the heart of London!

I especially love Harry's command to release the electro pulseWink

A lot happens from proposal to assassination plus entry of 2 new characters. A great open to the season. Ruth stepped up to the plate in this episode. I also liked seeing Harry unravel

Killing the HS is a big move; revenge not only for Ros but also for the betrayal. Harry did warn him he'd show him just what type of bastard he can be. Is it really so out of character for Harry? He avenged Adam's death too.

Haha yeah his command was cool and seeing Harry unravel was interesting. Its rare to see him like this, but PF did a great job in portraying Harry's unraveling and struggle.

Well I guess I wasn't surprised at Harry killing Nicolas Blake, but I guess I was surprised at how quickly it came about (I actually thought Harry was going to shoot him).

I thought the plot was slightly more contrived than usual, but it was rounded off well enough. I'm sure not sure I like Beth yet or not, but she may grow on me. And what can I say about Dimitri? He's a great addition to the team, and I love Max Brown. But the end! What...what...WHAT? I know a bit about Lucas and his past but...this is a strange turn of events!

RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
Watching this episode with Mr AC for the first time was loads of fun!

When Harry proposed to Ruth at Ros' funeral, Mr AC gasped, started to laugh and rolled his eyes saying something like, "Oooohhhh, Harry....Harry...."

He gasped again when HS Blake invited Harry top take his gloves off and stay awhile. When it cut the opening credits, he looked at me with his eyes big as saucers and said, "Whoa!"

I think he agrees with me that is was one of the, if not the best season opener ever!

As we moved through the episode, he mentioned that he was very glad the the camera work of 8.8 was gone (He hated it!) and he was talking back to the screen the whole time. He liked the introduction of Beth and Dimitri. I think their intros as good as well. If you don't know they were new cast members (as I did) they do come as a surprise.

Again, after the fade to negative (after Vaughan is introduced) he looked at me again with eyes a big as saucers and a gleeful smile on his face and again said, "Whoa!"

I told him that I will be very curious to see his reaction to S9 as a whole. But that first episode is a corker! Time will tell.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Ha! Mr AC has good taste. Smile

I do agree those first 5 mins were heart stopping. Season 10 had no chance of being able to top that.

Did you tell Mr AC about the cut dog scene? That originally Harry went into the kitchen to feed the dog as he didn't want it to starve?

Or more accurately, that he didn't want it to get hungry and eat its dead master...Tongue

There are lots to love about this episode. I also thought, apart from Beth and Dimitri, Towers had a really excellent introduction.
