Also liked SRB's new Home Secretary, especially when meeting Harry he says something like "the man, the myth, the legend". Laughed at his "till the next catastrophe" line.

RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
Thanks for the clarification, TeaLady- I was too frightened by Nitrus' earlier post not to put the spoiler thingies in!!

That poisoning scene was really good- both Harry and the old h/secretary made it completely believable. Yes, I imagine you wouldn't want to look into the eyes of the person you were killing, and Harry hiding his face from his victim was very convincing. What a contrast with Dimitri struggling to the death with the AQ terrorist- they really looked as if they were fighting for their lives.

I think the acting and scripting in this episode was really fantastic. I liked the look of Beth, who is coming from an unconventional background, just as Ros did. Lucas wasn't very nice to her, though. I used to be an insurance investigator and met with rather a lot of Lucas-type-reaction from 'proper' coppers (although thankfully I didn't ever have to pretend to be a prostitute!). I am not sure there are any 'private sector' spooks in real life, though!

And here I thought the whole "John Porter" thing was a joke just because Lucas was dressing in "Strike Back"-similar clothing....who knew the Spooks writers took it so seriously?Silba

I also liked the fact that the characters kept mirroring each other, both Ruth and the Home Sec talk about "timing" and Harry and Beth talk about being "clean". Great writing.

Yes, that was quite an amazing and awkward scene. Harry didn't want to look at him and I kind of guessed when Harry kept his gloves on. If I remember rightly, did Blake call Ruth a bitch?

So Blake just did it for money and power? Am I right? He always was a bit of a snake. Did he really think, Harry Pearce would leave him be after Ros died. It seemed almost like Blake was waiting for Harry. Waiting for him to turn up.

'poisoning the old HS'

Sniper, I think we saw Harry's back as he went across to the drinks table to pour the whisky, so he must have slipped the HS a mickey then, I reckon.

Ha, I can't imagine Harry ruining a whole bottle of decent scotch. I bet he took the bottle back with him, and put it on his drinks tray.

Do we think Ruth bought the fact that Blake died of a heart attack?

I doubt that Harry would have been able to go all the way to the wilds of Scotland for a day without her knowing about it, so she'll know or have guessed that he was behind it.

Praxis, thanks for that.

Spoiler: show

BTW, I'm new here so don't have a go at me for this, but I have read that Lucas' character...shall we say...develops somewhat in this series.
