RE: Series 9 Episode 1 discussion
Well, i've only been waiting for twelve months for this episode and i gotta say - Brilliant!!
The acting, the storylines, the twists and turns from the start to the end!!! I cant wait for next weeks episode.

Was anyone else gutted that they have chosen not to preview the following weeks episodes on bbc3? I had the channel changed and was sorely dissapointed when it was not shown.

I was watching Harry very carefully to see if he drank from his glass, which I'm sure he did. But I didn't see him lace the HS's glass when he poisoned him. I'll watch it again on iPlayer tomorrow, but did anyone else get a good look?

Must have been when he had his back to us when pouring the drinks out.

I was watching closely and am pretty sure Harry did take at least a sip of the drink.

Maybe we'll get some explanation next week but Dmitri has just been catapulted in. If you hadn't seen the show before you wouldn't have realised he wasn't a regular member of the grid.

Some beautifully understated acting here from Harry and Ruth as all the unfulfilled yearning crept to the surface.
Loved the scene with Harry and the old HS - it was very Le Carre in it's old school acceptance of a deserved end.

Dimitri seems very straight-down-the-line and Beth, well, I think she could become interesting - she's got a hard act to follow though.

Lucas seemed a particularly tough guy tonight, slightly out of whack with what we've seen before. Perhaps it is setting us up for the person he was before MI5? Intrigued with what they are going to do with him. John...really...?Suicida How many men's names are there? This'll be the fifth time he's played someone called John!

Absolutely loved the scene between Harry and Nicholas Blake. The acting was top notch as was the writing. Harry really does seem to be cracking up.

The HR scenes were very intense. Part of me is glad that she rejected his marriage proposal, I so want them to be together and for Harry to have some happiness though. Her speech on the rooftop did confuse me though. I don't quite know what she meant. I shall have to watch it again.

I really like Beth too. I think that Sophia is brilliant. Also Dimitri is a great character, the part with Vaughn at the end intrigued me. I really think there is something amiss with Lucas.

o..kay.
have to let it sink in. and watch the recording tomorrow. And again.
For now - quite like Beth.. she's no Ros (I AM SOOOOO MISSING HER) but she's feisty..she'll grow on me (and on Harry and Lucas Smile
not overly taken with Dimitri yet but that might come.
Poor Harry. Talking about crumbling foundations. ruth once moer the voice of reason, only reversed.
Oh, yeah, poor Lucas too. That look on his face when EV confronted him?!?
EVIL CLIFFIE!!!!

counting the hours till next week.

Harry's Shirts

A small point, but I would have expected a more traditional cutaway or Prince of Wales collar. You were never see an establishment type figure wearing a tab collar.

Loved when the HS says' make yourself at home, you havent even taken your gloves off...' and realises he's dealing with the wily old fox Harry Pearce. Classic Harry. I sleep better at night hoping there is a Harry Pearce looking over us lol . . .Also agree with some of the coments re Lucas. He is a dark character, darker than Tom and Adam, tho maybe this is deliberate , reflecting the more complex threats they face?

Don't say that! I love the great man's shirts! Lol! I've been looking for them all over. Also, on Harry's wardrobe front, is that a new overcoat? It looks fresh, perhaps replacing the one he lost at the hands of Viktor Sarkisian? Very swish, shall be looking for one of those too!

Back on track:

Excellent opening scene, the contrast between Ros' explosive death and Ruth's (of all people) reading at her memorial.

The proposal was very Harry and Ruth, I noticed somewhere before, fans were speculating if he would just come out and ask, as is their "thing", and he did. Ruth's explanation at the end, about them being as close as they ever could get, was one of the most romantic lines I've ever heard. How sad am I, eh?

I'm disappointed they didn't go into the Blake/Nightingale connection, it seemed there was no logical explanation for it. Why force him out in the first place? Surely him being Home Secretary would have helped Nightingale more, with his reach and influence, etc.

Also, I did see Harry drinking some of the whiskey, but I don't think he swallowed it, perhaps he only wet his lips with it? They would have shown us Harry putting something in, surely?

I'm going to let Beth and Dimitri have a few weeks, but they look interesting. And did anyone else think Tariq looked quite pale in some scenes? Maybe it's just the light, but I noticed it around his eyes.

Nice new layout of the Grid, but still no pods, just an added door.

And finally, Lucas...

Hmmm....

Sorry for the rant, but I'm very excited, and sorry if I've copied anyone else's point, I haven't read this whole thread yet, just the last post!

I have just watched it again on iplayer and Harry just puts the drink to his lips. You don't see him take any of the liquid in his mouth.

John

I don't know where you would find the shirts but I got a coat like Harry's from the last series here:
http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/ym-gbpdefault/...=&browse=Y

Not cheap, but I get lots of favourable comments.

I wonder if just wetting his lips with the whisky would prevent any harm? I prefer the explanation put before - that he slipped a mickey in when we (and the HS) weren't looking.
