I just thought a Blake on his chest and a Turner on his arm.

I spend too much time looking at those tats.

I haven't spent much time studing the tats but I seem to remember from a previous series that Lucas is a fan of Blake, and a ship is a ship, even if not the exact one as in the painting ....

RE: Series 9 Episode 4 discussion
I finally saw it and think it was one of the most, or the most, entertaining of all the episodes of all the seasons. The writers are doing a good job of confusing everyone about Lucas, Vaughn and Maya. I don't know what's going on but it is intriguing and hopefully will have a good payoff.

I read all the comments but don't remember anyone discussing the scene of the Chinese terrorists packing for home and saying that the mission was not a failure, they got what they wanted and we saw a photo of Lucas on the phone. (It may have been discussed on the first few pages of the thread which I read before I saw the episode and wouldn't have known what they were talking about.)

At some point I got the off the wall suggestion that Lucas was some sort of sleeper agent being woken up for his assignment. Why does Vaughn have power over him? Why would the Chinese hatch such an elaborate scheme just to check up on Lucas? And while we're on the subject, which end is up?

Rooftop scene:
Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away.
Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!"

Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas."

I was just watching episode 2 again (it's my day off and I have the house to myself, she says defensivelySilba) and noticed that Lucas's username was L_North216 but in episode 4 it's Lucas North.

I should follow his advice and get out more!

Interesting. Why 216? And is the difference a mistake or is it deliberate?

In other words: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

(I don't get out more, but obviously I should be rewatching more Spooks)

Dear Nitrus
I know nothing about IT except what I need to know to research on the Internet. I spend most of my life researching foreign affairs, international relations, military stuff, cultures, languages etc. I'm 55. So I have considerable experience of the outside world, but not much of computers.

I think that perhaps most people watching Spooks like computers, are intelligent but know little of the outside world. So maybe I should just leave this Forum to those people. I don't really belong here, so I think I'll take my leave of you.

Good luck to you all

Even in this very same episode we are seeing two very different sides of Lucas. We got a Lucas who is off on his own agenda, and didn't hesitate to frame another for his actions. But then we have another Lucas whom at the beginning of the episode put his own life on the line to be arrested by the Chinese just so the mission could be done, even though he knew that there is a chance that he may not get out, and not to mention he even showed slight protectiveness towards Ruth when they all ran out of the building with the Chinese scientist, he had his hand on her back as if guiding her.

It's just hard for me to believe that what I saw for the last two series of Lucas always coming through for MI5 and Harry, is simply just an act and that he would be a big evil traitor. I just can't see that. Not when it comes to someone who endured 8 years of torture for his country and still remained loyal, not someone who would put his own nightmares aside and risk his life to run to the very place where he was captured just because he was told to. I simply can't believe it.

There is more to this story than what we are seeing, and if anything, the Spooks writers have always been good at planting red herrings and making us believe one thing but throwing in twists that we never see coming.

From everything I have seen Lucas done, I just can't believe he would be a dark, cold, ruthless person who only cares about himself. Something is going on, and the writers sure aren't telling us.

Maybe I'm in denial, maybe I'm being too naive about Lucas's true nature, but in my eyes, I can never see Lucas as cold-blooded, so unless Lucas/RA has been fooling us all along, I just can't believe he would turn against Harry and MI5, my heart can never accept that.

So if that were to happen, that Lucas is revealed to be some evil bad guy who is ruthless and would kill or harm anyone to get what he wants, then I can only say it's character assassination. They will have successfully destroyed Lucas's character with something way worse than just some love-sick puppy-ness. It would have destroyed the best thing about Lucas, his loyalty to his people.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said! And I desperately hope that the writers will come up with a plausible explanation for Lucas' strange behaviour! Otherwise it would just mean there are giving us an absolutely ridiculous storyline and actually think we would buy it. And it would also make Harry (and the whole of MI5) look pretty stupid: as head of the counter-terrorism department he should be a better judge of character than to recruit and promote someone whose anything but loyal, trustworthy and honest.

Dear khannel,

Am sorry to hear that's how you feel. For myself what I find interesting about espionage in general is that it brings together so many different interests and disciplines - foreign affairs, international relations, military stuff, cultures, languages, history, human psychology, science and technology including IT.

Spooks for me is set against the background of current international relations, so it would be a pity not to have some more input on this. Please don't be put off by some of the nerdy IT posts

Best Wishes

FATBOY

I wonder why the Chinese have a picture of Lucas? Is it related to Vaughn and whatever stuff he did before?

The Chinese better not hurt my Lucas or else I will not be very pleased with my birth country! I will attack with flamethrowers! I am not afraid to use it!
