Is it me? With all the explosions, flashing lights, alarms and general confusion, it's hard to tell. Add that on to the fact that we now know the Chinese want Lucas, perhaps it's not to crazy to think that. It's worth watching again tonight on BBC 1 or on the Iplayer.

oh my god, you could be right - looks like he pushes one of them away. just literally read your message as that scene was coming up on the sunday repeat.

That's what I thought at first too, I thought that was just my eyes playing tricks on me, but I could have sworn I saw Lucas fight someone off when the flash-bang went off. I thought I was the only one who saw it, good to know others noticed it too.

Maybe this is another sign that the Chinese want Lucas for something?

I'm starting to think Harry should have kept Lucas locked in a box or a steel room or something just to keep him out of trouble!

Yes indeed, one of the Chinese snatch squad does go for Lucas. I think this is the shorter guy in the light coloured jacket. This is the same guy who at the end states that Jiang Li is not the reason they are there and the implication is that the real reason is Lucas, however the rest of the team seem unaware of this.

Looking forward to tonight's episode and hopefully some answers.

But that doesn't mean that what Lucas did back in 1995 wasn't bad - bad enough to endanger all he's achieved in the meantime.

No it doesn't. My memory of Spooks isn't that long, I wonder if there is anything in previous series that might shed some light on what Lucas did?

I think this is all new. I remember reading a RA interview where he was talking about this storyline, saying that it took some writing as they had to be careful not to compromise any of the storylines that have already passed. I took from this that you won't find any hints in the last two series.

From reading everyone's new comments a new off-the-wall idea has hit me.

Spoiler: show
It is possible that Ruth is the traitor. She is the one who is on Lucas' tail while the others, who are just as smart, have no suspicions of him at all. Here's my reasoning.

1) We are all suspicious of Lucas. As above, why is no one else suspicious?
2) Lucas saying "A traitor is a traitor" in front of everyone when the prudent thing would be to keep his mouth shut.
3) Ruth turning Harry down. She would have at least taken the opportunity to spend more time with him (a let's talk about it approach) if she didn't think it was totally doomed. She does care for him and may want to keep him out of the center of events if things start unraveling. The Harry/Ruth story is played out, sorry but it's true.
4) She was off the grid for a season and it would be child's play to write a back story about how it happened.
5) The only thing standing between this plot line and it's realization is the fans. We've been burned in the past. Writer's would not pass up a shocker like this for us.

Too lazy to google but don't the Russians and Chinese have a symbiotic relationship?

Rooftop scene:
Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away.
Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!"

Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas."

Well I suppose it's possible. With Spooks I think one has to expect the unexpected. Ruth a traitor, but not a cold hearted traitor wishing to protect Harry? If Ruth was to enter into a relationship with Harry it would draw attention to herself and possible suspicion.

But I can't see much other evidence for Ruth being a traitor other than I'm pretty sure she is on to Lucas but hasn't blown him - yet.

re. Russia/China - while relations have improved in recent years I don't think they are quite symbiotic yet, as recently as 2007 Russia was still a target for Chinese espionage.

There is also HMP Albany, a prison opened in the Isle of White in 1967, just a thought perhaps insignificant.

RE: Series 9 Episode 4 discussion
Regarding Ruth rumbling Lucas in this episode, I think that it is just signposting on the part of the writers. Let's face it, someone has got to have an inkling that he's not right. Harry's preoccupied with his midlife crisis, Beth and Dimitri don't really know the guy and Tariq is lost in technology. That leaves Ruth.

I think we forget sometimes that we are not your average viewer. Most people just watch it and take it all on face value. At various times in our house we people from 10-74 years watching this show. We may laugh at the way the characters have lines that point out the bleeding obvious, but trust me some folk need that just to keep up!

So that's why I think we have Ruthie with her 'looking suspicious' face on in the corridor. Sort of a 'DA DA DAAAA' moment for dramatic effect.
