I just love the looks of thinly veiled disdain that Harry gives him. When Towers talked about that app that was 'really worth a download' I really laughed at Harry's face.

I must admit i thought it was a snarky comment on the app - but it is somewhat out of character for a senior politician to actually know anything about science and technology (the last was probably Mrs Thatcher)

I didn't think it was out of character. I know plenty of advanced middle age people and they are always working their cell phones. I thought the scene was cool and closing with HS going back to working his phone, aka lifeline, like a teenager was priceless.

He had his most sympathetic moment yet when he was telling Harry about why making peace in the Middle East is important, revealing his personal connection to the area. It was the first glimpse of something more for a very stereotypical politician.

I thought the app thing was funny and realistic. The government had probably sent Towers on a two week course at a country mansion, teaching him how to use it. I think Towers knows his stuff and certainly waffles to Harry like he does but he's not much of a realist. He sees the bigger picture, but doesn't consider the possibility of not getting there or perhaps that they shouldn't get there i.e helping the Russians, risk to lighthouse too great. Did anyone else see Towers sneak away when the shooting started in 9.5?

Harry's face is hysterical during that scene! He is a little bit of a dinosaur....bless.

As for Towers, I have been sensing that he looks at everything with the idealism of a politician but when the dirty work begins, he is not exacltly sure what to do. I can see how it would have been very difficult to say no to the Americans telling him that Lighthouse was coming anyway, but he didn't even log any reservations about it. Maybe he is looking to get his tummy tickled? Wink

re: JHydes comment re: Towers showing a little more personal story, I thought the line about his days as a long haired liberal was interesting. It's the hippie conundrum: In order to change the world, you have to have to envision the ideal world. The problem is, idealism are not always realistic. Perhaps Towers has his own balancing act going on: between idealism and realism? (For the record, I am a long-haired liberal. Angel

I laughed out loud at the HS' bumbling act in the Briefing Room, when he was trying to get Beecher out of there. He's a real politician - his demeanour changes with every situation. Here I thought he was actually on the same page as Harry, and I didn't see any annoyance about Harry basically ordering Beecher out of there as others did.

I agree. Towers really let Harry do his stuff and didn't really interfere, which you may have expected. Maybe Towers does know when he is out of his depth. I don't think Towers was annoyed when Harry kicked Beecher out but he certainly threw Harry a dirty look as he walked out. I thought it was more of a, "Get this sorted Harry," type scowl especially after Tariq had just embarrassed them both in front of the Americans.

I found it quite interesting that the HS told Harry at the end of 9.8 that he would go to bat for him. The two of them didn't have the easiest of working relationships. I wonder if he really meant it, or if it was just an empty promise?

I hope SRB will be back next year, his HS was a very interesting character.

Surely this is the perfect opportunity for Towers to get Harry out? Why Towers would be on Harry's side, I'm not sure. If Towers is Harry's only hope, then I would be quite worried. Harry can't really trust him.

I think it will depend on how central this storyline will be in the new series, and whether they cast some new characters to investigate Harry. You would at least have the DG having a say and some internal affairs bods maybe?

I hope SRB is back too. He was a good replacement for Blake/RG.
