(22-10-2010 09:43 AM)Tea Lady Wrote:  The films will take two years. RA's part could be in 2012. We just don't know. Martin Freeman has already signed up for a new series of Sherlock which films next year. Surely that means he won't be in NZ for several months.

I guess, at the worst, this is going to be one hell of a final showdown. TV at its best, I have no doubt.

RA's part is definitely in both films, the character he plays is a major character in the Hobbit stories, so if Martin Freeman is in both films, then RA will be too. But you are right, it is not impossible for him to do both, I guess we will have to wait.

(22-10-2010 09:45 AM)WhiteSwan Wrote:  (why on earth MI5 - because apparently their vetting process is just a joke and section D is run by someone who's the worst judge of character in the whole of Britain).

Yes, surely they aren't THAT stupid....

(22-10-2010 09:45 AM)WhiteSwan Wrote:  And then he looks at a photograph of a woman and - suddenly - the evil, ruthless man is back. Wow! Amazing! What a shame the Russians didn't know about that trick!

LOL! Apparently a picture of Lucas's tatooes was able to turn Elizabeta into an FSB officer.....so clearly photographs have some magical abilities that we mere mortals don't know of!Dodgy

MI5 should try that sometimes, maybe it will work too!!!

(22-10-2010 09:45 AM)WhiteSwan Wrote:  I'm sorry, but if they don't come up with a really good twist at the end, which will make Lucas a hero again and not a villain, then this will be one of the most ridiculous stories I've seen in a long, long time.

Most definitely AGREED!

(22-10-2010 11:11 AM)nothingisasitseems Wrote:  I agree and this is just not Spooks. They wouldn't have spent most of this Series setting Lucas up if there wasn't a BIG twist at the end!

EXACTLY! They spent 2 series creating this amazing character who, despite having some shady sides, has always been loyal to MI5 and Harry, surely they aren't going to just toss it all away in some ridiculous silly storyline! They OWE Lucas and Richard a better exit than this! They OWE the fans a better exit than this!!

(22-10-2010 11:37 AM)HellsBells Wrote:  Totally agree with WhiteSwan, Lucas was so loyal for so long he can't just give it all up for a woman. Unless his secret past is so bad that continuing to work for MI5 is no longer an option once Harry finds out, after all Harry said he didn't like liars, and this seams like a really big lie.

But WHAT could be so bad? He killed innocent people? I'm sure Harry can understand, I'm sure Harry will see that Lucas has changed, that after suffering and giving up so much for this country and protecting its citizens that the mistakes of the past can be redeemed! Harry may be stubborn, but he is also fair. Lucas has shown his loyalty again and again, I am sure Harry would have understood that the past is just the past.

RE: [spoilers] Episode 8 summary
i have to say i'm finding this whole Lucas/John thing ridiculous. if they were to get rid of him, i preferred they did it in a less out-of-character way. i don't think there's been much consistency with his character except his inability to separate personal life from work. I really hope the writers do something spectacular in this episode which makes me think otherwise...

RE: [spoilers] Episode 8 summary
First time poster...long time viewer.

Just a thought, IF Lucas was being killed off, then wouldn't they have tried to hold off the announcement of RA being cast in The Hobbit until after E8 airs??

I know neither the BBC or Kudos are involved in The Hobbit production, but they could have a clause in RA's contract to protect against such things...I can't imagine (for example) that Matt Smith would be allowed to announce his next project after Dr Who until after his exit has been confirmed by the Beeb...

I am also in the group hoping that Lucas doesn't end up the villain of the piece. I am convinced that they are leading us so far down this path that there must be a twist that "redeems" Lucas, otherwise it would be a huge departure from the usual class of writing that we have all come to expect from Spooks...

Are they the ones after Ruth? Surely Harry would know that there would be no going back this time with Ruth, if he left her to her fate.

I still believe this cast makes it through to S10. How on earth it will happen though, is beyond me.

Just noticed in the BBC Spooks website, a behind the scenes short where:
1) the clapperboard has "Block 4, eps: 7 + 8" written on it.
2) Lucas is shown in a church, with RA interviewed outside
3) he meets a Chinese

Does not help much, we'll have to wait another week or two! Undecided

Am i the only one who doesn't find Lucas' behaviour all too wrong? (As in out of character wrong, not his action in general Tongue) Although saying that i think he was always pretty unreliable.

Then again i'm not really a Lucas fan and would be quite happy to see him leave. Makes room for plots that don't involve Lucas' inner turmoil every 10 minutes. Thcussing

Reading this has actually piqued my interest, and after reading this threads comments i'm actually really looking forward to how they'll be ending this series. Smile

Codename Kirayuki: Vid Maker. H/R & Ruth fan.

Re: taking true PF words about "betrayal at unexpected level", this still gives so many choices, IMHO (putting under spoiler tags, just to be on the safe side)
Spoiler: show
1) could be Becheer? (not the first time, also CIA was highly involved in Nightingale)
2) I would still not exclude Beth (having been cleared and given a second chance) also remind Connie storyline (accused once, cleared, found guilty second time)
3) Ruth (how did she found about the HS being in the inner circle if they put the info deeper?) also for her connections with the chinese before (ep 8.8) who also were/(are?) into Nightingale, or could just be a diversion
4) the new HS: just because he could... ;-)
5) (Sorry!) Harry! what is in the Albany file that is so important for Vaughan's employers, some secret from Harry's past that will bring him down, allowing them to succeed in their operation?

re: the crime time preview. Not too bad, spoiler-wise, IMO.

I think I am going to really enjoy Vincent Regan. His dynamic with Harry should be fun to watch.

God, I don't know! I have given up speculating. Vincent Regan is not even listed on imdb for Spooks 9.8. If Lucas does return and Alec White stays, it could make for some very good fireworks between the two. Lucas' moral fire and Alec's insolence could really stir things up!
