Adam Adam's breakdown
Adam's breakdown has to be my least favourite storyline of all series. It was such a shame to see him slowly crumble through the series. I was actually suprised when he returned for series 6, I thought it was only a matter of time before he was fired or killed.

RE: Adam's breakdown
Gosh can't really comment, as a lot of my vids feature poor Adam and his breakdown Big Grin I loved it, not in a wicked way, but it showed that he was human and was affected...I'd of been more worried if he had'nt had a breakdown after Fiona, it had to be a plausible plot line for the writers to go down. Still gutted he's gone.

I know it shows that he's only human etc. but it ruined the character for me Sad after that he wasn't really the same again. I really weanted to see the Adam that I loved through series 3 again. I'm just being very selfish though Tongue

RE: Adam's breakdown
No you're absolutely right Tranquility, series 5 was an awful one for the character of Adam. Not only for him personally but for us poor viewers having to put up with him! Wink

RE: Adam's breakdown
I'm with Juliet Delta on this one. I thought it was very believable that a guy who was married to someone for ten years, and then had to watch her die like that, would have some sort of breakdown. It is more amazing that he was able to function officially on some level at all. So to me, it contributed to the realism of the show. I could have done without the fling with the nanny though...

RE: Adam's breakdown
I really enjoyed this storyline. It added to his character and showed that he couldn't cope under pressure all of the time. As said, it essentially made him human so we could relate to him a lot more as a result.

If we didn't see any emotion from him, he would have just been a 2D superspy type. It was realistic that he felt something after Fiona's death. We got to see his feelings and how it affected the whole team. Great viewing.

RE: Adam's breakdown
I agree with both of you Silktie & The Grid, it was expected and realistic that Adam would go through a breakdown after seeing his wife die. It just seemed that it was the basis of every episode throughout series 5 and a theme we could never escape from.

Me too. I thought the build up was good - Adam was recovering ok but then the shooting at Harmsworth in 5.4 brought back Fiona's death and re-ignited his grief. There was no sign of the breakdown in 5.5 unless you count his sudden (and understandable) anger and aggression to Ros when he realises she informed on Ruth behind his back.
In 5.6 we get to see the nightmares and more irrational aggression. Then we get the breakdown in 5.8 brought on by Wes' disappearance and Dempsey calling him on the symptoms in 5.9. The episode that was most unrealistic was 5.10 when Adam recovered from the breakdown to save the day.

Incidentally in the commentary for 5.9, the producer Katie Swinston(?) says that PTSD support groups were very complimentary about how the show and RPJ had portrayed the illness. A number of people had sought help as a result of seeing Adam's breakdown.

RE: Adam's breakdown
ive just stared s5! (have watched all eps in 2 weeks so far) i have been expecting something like this since fiona died, he really struggled for it to sink in, then suddenly he was fine so i knew it would comeback to haunt him! looking forward to seeing how it pans out though!

although was i alone in wanting ruth to hug him? lots

EDIT 26 june 210

I have finished s5, have to say i liked the story line it seemed real to me that he was ok at some moments and then at others he lost control, he really did want to die at times but something was stopping him, i assume and hope it was Wes (who witin two eps refers to him being 9 and then 8 years old). i find it odd as well that with the large change in his behaviour no one bar ros did anything about it! it was a huge personality shift. that said he seems to have made a rather fastr recovery (upto s6 ep1). that said he does look so lost at times ;( poor adam

Did love harry thought not knowing what to do, being torn between adam and the job
