[Spooks]: The Best Moments

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
8.1 Ruth makes her Lady Lazerus call and a shocked Malcolm tells everyone else. I love Ros's disbelieving/confused, "Ruth?" look.

Or, pretty much any moment when Ros's dry wit comes out especially though 8.2 when she walks onto the grid and sees Tariq for the first time and asks, "What is that?" not 'Who?' or 'He is?'. It's brilliantly deadpan.

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
Something to think about but the one moment that stands out for me the most:

7.7 Connie strangling Ben

There have been some shocking and gruesome moments but this was so unexpected and vicious it almost turned my stomach.

Sometimes we knew a character was on the way out and it somewhat spoiled the surprise but this was just out of the blue for me.

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
Besides those mentioned how about

The scene Ruth is prepping Harry to fail the DG interview? She pushes him and he gets uncomfortable followed by her getting uncomfortable. (Nothing much changed in 10 yrs eh?) Somewhere in that scene is the 'I didn't know I paced' line. Think it was 3.8?

Another classic moment is when Harry shuts himself in his office pretending to be dying whilst the team have to go on - the eerie exercise. In fact that whole episode was fab. S3?

4.10 Adam and Ruth confronting Harry about killing Diana. Harry's fab bluff.

7.8? Harry strangled the Russian.

Danny assassinating the guy on the ferry.

God, I couldn't actually pick 10. There are too many. Thanks for the thread and a reminder of just how great this show has been. It helps deal with the finale Tsunami!

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
Picking 10 moments is difficult but here we go in no particular order....

9.1 - Harry killing the HS
5.1 - Colin being hanging
3.10 - Danny's speech and being shot
5.5 - Harry and Ruth saying goodbye
7.6? - Connie killing Ben
2.10 - Tom shooting Harry
7.7 - Virtually the whole episode, but the scene where Harry is captured
5.5 - Harry and Mace in the Club
10.5 - Harry and Ruth saying goodbye for a second time
4.10 - Harry bluffing Ruth and Adam about Princess Di's death

There's plenty of classics I've missed out and it's interesting reading others thoughts. One thing that did strike me when thinking about this, the last death that I actually found 'shocking' was Ben's (who otherwise I thought was a terrible character), all the others since then, Connie, Jo, Ros, Lucas, Tariq and Ruth were just ho-hum as they seemed to up the 'death-rate' so significantly over the last few series. Less would have been more in my opinion!

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
I don't know about 10 moments but my absolute favorite this is who Harry is moment was when Harry strangled the guy in the subway with his tie and then calmly walked out and put his tie back on. Now there's an English gentle - spy for you. Loved it.

I suppose two would be shooting the Russian guy to avenge Adam ("Ros, give me your sidearm.").

And then killing the Home Secretary (for whom he had such respect and admiration) to avenge Ros.

Harry made Jack Bauer seem a wimp. Less than....even.

nimax1

Agree with you on those three. I also liked the sharp comments from Ros, Harry's humour and of course the nice Harry and Ruth bits. Killing the bad guys, humour and love all in one TV programme !

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
Here are my takes for best moments in no particular order:

1.2: Head, then hand into the deep fat fryer; why, because it put Spooks in the radar.
2.5: The eerie exercise; why, it was just that darn good of an episode.
3.5: Adam telling Danny about his first post-assassination experience and then Danny's own later on; why, striking acting and editing; no greater morality barometer.
3.10: Danny's speech and his eventual demise; why, so brutally honest and so brave.
7.7: The opening @ Harry's flat: the choice of choral music, Harry's face--enough said.
7.8: The interrogation of Connie @ Ottawa Bravo: all four of them in a camera shot under those circumstances...
9.1: This whole episode; why, it had H&R moments, Towers, obscure yet very ingenious plot, and lastly, Harry partaking in a meticulously calculated murder for revenge which was wonderfully shot.

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
I like the moments all of you chose. They are all memorable. What strikes me is how violent most of those moments were, even though they were very well done. I am happy that PF realized the potential of H/R, which gave a more human touch to Harry and Spooks.

RE: [Spooks]: The Best Moments
In no particular order...

ep 3.1 Tom and Adam meet for the first time. Harry prevents Tom from interrogating Carmen Joyce, forcing him to listen-with growing admiration-as Adam gently gets her to confess to Toms setup. At the risk of sounding VERY geeky, that scene outside the surveillance van always reminds me of my childhood and the bit in the Transformers movie where Optimus Prime knows he's dying and hands over the 'matrix of leadership' (anyone over the age of about 30 should get this reference!).

ep 5.9 Adam and Richard Dempsey come together and prove Dempsey wasn't a traitor.

ep. 4.6 Zaf allows would-be assassin Nazim Malek to hear his sons voice on the phone, just as Malek is about to pull the trigger.

ep 3.3 Harry helps Adam lose the MI6 surveillance team, much to the annoyance of Oliver Mace.

ep 4.9 Harry, Adam and Wes go to the dog track. Similarly the bit in I think its 7.1 when Harry turns up to watch Wes play rugby instead of Adam. A touching, wordless scene that always brings a lump to my throat

ep 3.7 Danny loses the chip on his shoulder about Zoe in time to figure out Ruth is in danger.

ep 2.3 Zoe-undercover as a schoolteacher-gets some typically male advice from Tom and Danny about tight fitting tops and short skirts.

ep 8.1 Ruth reappears. I wasn't sure the reappearance of an old character could be made to work, but I was happily wrong.

and finally, I can't quite remember the episode, but I cheered loudly when Tom finally cut his losses with Ellie, the most irritating girlfriend a bloke could possibly have.

Last post:

Two more bests:

Harry at the rugby match after Adam is killed hugging Wes.

Harry saying good-bye to his daughter.

Harrys face when Ruth reappears before George is killed.

And the whole sequence after Ruth is killed until the end of 10.6.

PF's exquisite acting - mostly without saying anything - just takes my breadth away.
