What music are you into?

RE: What music are you into?
Grizzly Bear is another group I haven't been able to stop listening to since their last album released. Which was about a year now, wow! Time flies. Anyhoo, I'm listening to the first song on the album Veckatimest called Southern Point and I see an old ship on the sea during a storm and the waves are crashing on the deck. It's frantic. All the hi-hat probably accounts for the waves and rain, etc. The guitar chords is the crew running around. The bass line mid-way through is the "eye" of the storm.

I'm curious what others see when they listen to songs.

Love Grizzly Bear. They were here for the Sydney Festival in January and totally brilliant.

I currently have Paul Dempsey's solo album 'Everything is True' on loop and it's fantastic. I love his stuff with Something For Kate too and he just gets better with age. I didn't actually realise until recently that he was so young when he started out with his band - just 17.

Ooo I've been meaning to check that out. I used to see Something for Kate back in the day. He reminds me of Richard Armitage. Tall, dark, handsome and a delicious voice!

He's a tall bugger - 6.5, I think. I came to Something for Kate quite late in the piece, and this album is brilliant. Some of his best songwriting yet. And yeah, he has Armitage's tall and handsome thang goin' awn. But he married his bassist, which is both retro and really lovely.

LLM - I want that album, it's meant to be excellent.

RE: What music are you into?
I just wandered over here. I'm a music lover and player too, so I'll listen to just about anything. I am admittedly stuck in a time warp that I am trying to work myself out of. With the help of the college students I work with and this thread, I should be able to update myself rather nicely!

Here are the bands/artists I have liked throughout my life:

"Classic" Rock: Peter Gabriel, The Who, The Beatles (Abbey Road), The Kinks, "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello (my youngest is named after him - his given name, not Elvis.)

Punk/New Wave: Talking Heads, The Clash (I know I am not alone!), The Ramones, The English Beat, The Pretenders (Someone please make a youtube Ros video to "Precious"? Pretty please...?)

Metal: Cream, Led Zeppelin

Bluegrass/Country: Ricky Scaggs, Alison Krauss and Union Station, Bill Monroe, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, John Hiatt.

80s/90s: They Might Be Giants, REM, U2, Nirvana

Jazz: Fats Waller, Ellis Marsalis, Jon Hendricks (with or without Lambert and Ross), Ella Fitzgerald, Hugh Masacala

2000s: Vampire Weekend, The Hold Steady

Blues/R&B/Soul: (I like it all, but to name a few...) BB King (King of the Blues!), Ruth Brown, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Wilson Pickett, Raphael Sandiq

Classical pieces: Beethoven's 9th, Mahler's Resurrection Symphony, Brahms' 2nd piano concerto (esp. the 3rd movement with the cello). Yeah, I like it Romantic with a capital "R." Chopin in general.

There is more, but I will spare you.Blush

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet
