RE: Peter Firth
It looks like "Blood & Oil" has been moved as well by the BBC and will be on week 27th March - 2 April. Apparently PF plays a "perpetual bar slouch called Malcolm"

Little pic

I am not sure about the woman behind him but I do see arms and a bit of chest....

Blood & Oil will be shown on BBC2 Monday (29th) and Tuesday (30th) March at 9pm - 10.30pm.

I think PF may only be in Tuesday's episode looking at the credits. (I think David Oyelowo is in both episodes though.)

RE: Peter Firth
Hi folks! I'm a newbie and a relatively new convert to the way, the truth and the light that is Spooks. A big Harry fan...and realising just what a fantastic actor Peter Firth really is. I've been going back over some of his older work and been very pleasantly surprised.

I've been through this whole thread and there's not been mention of "White Angel" or "Prisoner of Rio", among others. PF's performance in White Angel took my breath away - it's the best example of understated menace I've ever seen. Makes Hannibal Lector look like your Great Aunt Mamie!! Peter is totally amazing in it. Technically, the film leaves a lot to be desired, but then it was made for about 10 quid! Available on DVD...I really do recommend it. I won't spoil the story...but I will say that there's a shower scene, girlies... :-)

Prisoner of Rio is about Ronnie Biggs (the great train robber). It's really a lousy film - poor script, even worse direction - but PF does the best he can with the material. He plays an under cover cop in Rio. Again, won't spoil it...except there's a rather nice scene of PF in skimpy swimming trunks...

Anyone who wants to see Dorian Gray can watch it on YouTube. "Lifeforce" is hilarious (not meant to be but it's soooooo bad it's laugh out loud funny). Peter plays an SAS colonel and, as it was made in the mid-80s, he's lost the 'damaged cherub' look. To his credit, he once again does the best he can with a bad script. Christ knows how he played it straight - the temptation to ham it up must have been overwhelming (as many of the other cast members did...including Patrick Stewart).

And speaking of ham...watch "Chill Factor", in which he plays a maverick colonel. Absolutely dreadful film and the director should have been shot, as should Cuba Gooding Jr (doing his hysterical over-acting thing again). But it's PF running about waving guns and wearing black commando gear, so worth a watch just for that!

He was terrific in "Blood and Oil" - just one scene but what a doozie! If I didn't know it was him...I wouldn't have known it was him. Just by changing his posture, voice, accent and being unshaven, he seems to have 'shape shifted'. The character he plays is really sleazy...and he seems to have had a lot of fun with it. An anti-Harry kind of role. Watch it if you can!

BTW, hopefully I've managed to attach a scan of that Mail on Sunday article (photo of him sitting in the taxi is nice) which some kind soul posted on a different forum.

RE: Peter Firth
Thanks for the picture Picard1109. We had the text before but not a clear picture of PF in the taxi......nice arms though !

PF's been in a lot of films but I think I have said before, and you seem to agree in part, that a lot of it is dross. I have read up on White Angel, Prisoner, and Lifeforce, and seen clips on youtube but I have stayed clear. The reason is that I adore PF and I dont really want to see a poorly made and scripted film just because he is in it. I guess someone could therefore argue that I am not a true fan but I want to see PF used to his full abilities and that for me means picking and choosing what I watch from his back book of films and TV programmes.

You can get the complete collection of Band of Gold on ebay quite cheap so I think I will buy that next. I think PF was in three of those episodes. I think this series was supposed to be quite good.

As for Blood & Oil I thought he was great. A role completely against his normal casting. Its nice to see though that he has teeth as in Spooks we rarely get to see them as he's always wearing a pout 24/7.

Going slightly off topic, I kept meaning to research the character PF played in Pearl Harbor to see if he was a "real person." So when it was on the tv the other day I jotted down the name on the coffin at the end "Capt Mervyn S Bennion." I looked him up and PF did actually portray the real Captain of the USS West Virginia. He was mortally wounded on the brig, basically nearly cut in half, but refused to be moved to an aid station and stayed commanding his ship during the rest of the attack for 2 hours before he bled to death. He was awared the medal of Honor. So the film is somewhat accurate.

RE: Peter Firth
Welcome Picard1109! Thanks for that scan, that's a really nice pic of PF. He actually grows in my estimation because he seems to consciously avoid huge fame. He picks these sometimes strange projects and roles which I assume he finds interesting, rather than go for run-of-the-mill stuff that may bring him greater fame.

Tea Lady, love the new avatar!

RE: Peter Firth
OMG!!!! I've just spent an hour watching Spooks being filmed on London's south bank (directly opposite the MI-5 building). Episode 4 apparently. I was at a meeting in Vauxhall and decided to walk back to work along the river...just in case...

And Peter Firth was there...[I'm still shaking!!!!] He is even more adorable in real life than on screen!

Of course, being typically British, I kept my distance and just watched him work. He did look over at me at one point and smile. How's it go? Squeeeeeeee!!

He did seem to be getting quite friendly with one of the production assistants (young, blond, thin...of course!). Good luck to him (and her).

Action was
Series 9 Spoiler: show
Harry walking up to talk to someone (looked Oriental), discussing something. Harry then turns round and walks back towards Lambeth Bridge, starts talking on his mobile.

It was raining a bit, so PF under an umbrella quite a bit. I managed to get some photos on my phones and hopefully a few of them have come out (camera shake...I blame the cold...), which I'll post tonight.

"Moving in mysterious ways."
