I liked the nightingale story running through - even if it developed only towards the end.. I like the fact we never really knew many details until the last few episodes - for me that added to the intrigue

I disagree, a scheme with the far reaching tentacles of Nightingale has not be neutered just because Russell Price cashed in his chips. Remember Harry arriving at the scene saying that they don't know who is who, ie who is bad CIA or good CIA (apologize for the blaring contradiction in terms.)

Nightingale has placed people in positions of power throughout the world and so far we only know a few of them. Any new character will be distrusted as we mostly distrusted the new HS and even Tariq, who I think has had the camera linger on him at crucial times, possibly setting him up as a mole. I'd say the lack of background works in any new character's favor at this point. And, needless to say, nobody is all good or all bad. They are on board with some things and get frightened when they get the drift of what they are aiding and abetting. Even Sarah was scared when certain things happened and she saw what little control she had over the situation she helped to bring about.

I even have some mistrust of Harry from several moments throughout the series.

So, all in all, plenty I disliked but the series did hang together in a somewhat pleasing way.

Rooftop scene:
Beth and Dmitri sneak up and disarm Lucas, cuff him and lead him away.
Lucas screams, "No Harry please, I'd rather die!"

Harry: "We're sending you to rehab ................. in Texas."

Oddly enough, I thought it and episode 7 were the best largely because RA was great in them. Go figs. Shy

I'm with almh actually, I find parts of episode 4 quite trying. It's in my bottom half of the season. Loved episode 7 though - I think it will also stand up well over time.

Agreed 100% about both episodes 4 and 7.

7 was my first really favourite after episode 1 i suppose. It just has the re-watch factor.

I also feel it benefited from several things:

- Brilliant supporting Actor for Ashok. He was fantastic!
- An antagonist that you felt sorry for. We need more of these.
- Nice overall episode and series plot coverage.
- No Nancy Drew...
- ...so Lucas was playing the top of his game too.

Episode 7 has been a little underappreciated I think. As you say, it holds up well on the re-watch much like episode 1. It may well end up in my favourite 10-12 episodes of the show, as episode 1 already has.

RE: [spoilers] How Did You Rate Season 8?
I found series 8 wanting, though I am eternally grateful for Ruth's return. I just couldn't seem to get into the individual eps (with a couple of exceptions), found the ever-thinning grid very problematic, hated the Lucas/Sarah relationship, and was monumentally unhappy with the lack of interplay among the main characters. I found the whole series unremittingly depressing and bleak and I never got the sense, which I did in earlier series, that the group's work really meant something and that there was, indeed, some hope for the future.

Well I strongly disagree Tongue

If the writers wanted to show the viewers that the Nightingale conspiracy was going to continue on into Season 9 then I really don't think this Seasons finale would have ended the way it did with a mere questionmark over the lives of Ros and the Home Secretary.

Now if Nightingale had of succeeded in their plot and it started a nuclear confrontation between India and Pakistan THEN that definitely would have made for a very interesting Season finale and most certainly would have led us to believe that Nightingale would feature heavily in Season 9.

Plus only personally speaking but I'd really love to see a series of Spooks end with them not preventing a major catastrophe, I think it would really mix things up and could lead to some very interesting story lines.

Anyways these are just my opinions, the poll certainly suggests that most people enjoyed the show so it's been another successful season for Spooks and my views are without doubt in the minority.

I don't mean to be pedantic (honestly, I really don't) or parochial, but is it SERIES 8 or SEASON 8? You use both at different times. It's just that I prefer the usual British usage of 'series'. (Nothing against our cousins over the water!)

I know, I'm sorry; I am being both pedantic and parochial. I'll get me coat......
