I agree Silktie, season 8 Ruth is different from the character that left. She seems more confident and in the latter part of season 8 she was making all the little advances (the hand touch, asking Harry for a drink). Hopefully Harry will get himself together and season 9 will see them further their relationship.

Agreed, she knows she has to make the best of life, and can't miss a good oportunity. She has been sending signs to Harry, now Harry it's your turn!!

I think series 9 will see them together at some point, I doubt there will be a big huge declaration of feelings though, I just don't see it as their style somehow, unless something major happens to one of them.

I think the series may start with them being together (poss living together) then there is no need for big declaration, just the occasional fallout over work!!

YEH! Love the optimism yorkshiretyke. I have to say though that I may feel a little cheated if we suddenly find our favourite couple happily together. There has been so much angst that I want to see how they actually get together, not just a scene of them sitting in bed reading the Times and Telegraph together in 9.1.

Great image Tealady! I can't see them just magically being together in 9.1 but I do think it might happen quite quickly in series 9, perhaps before the first half of the series. I hope they don't cheat us out of seeing how they actually get together. I don't think they will, after all the writers are fully aware of how many people are rooting for this relationship.

Seriously though, I think Ruth is a different person from the one who refused to date Harry because people were talking about it. The events of episode 8.1 probably showed that life is so short and you shouldn't waste your chances to have something wonderful, and Ruth's actions towards Harry from 8.6 onwards seems to indicate that she, at least, has taken this lesson onboard.

Yep, I agree, S9 Ruth seems to have come back having learnt a lot. I think that she has crossed the threshold from singledom to having been in a viable permenant relationship. I got the impression prior to joining Sect D she hadn't really experienced this. She did mention some city trader boyfriend but nothing much else. I think that once you have experienced this it's something you always crave and settling back into being single doesn't feel right. Widowed and divorced people statistically have a better chance of finding new love than never marrieds of the same age.

Anyway back to Ruth....the ball is definitely in her court and I think that she knows this. I would be happy with the Times reading in bed scenario but I'm sure we will get angst first! Do I think it would work for the show? Yes, and I think that they should be brave and keep them as a low-key sub plot. I don't know if I am the only forum member old enough to remember the excellent US series Hill St Blues? They had a similar relationship going on in the background between the police chief and the legal, DA lady (Frank and Joyce I think!) and it really worked and still left room for loads of action, shooting and death LOL!

Ha ha, I do sort of remember them. My parents always watched it. I remember that they had a professional relationship at work and that you didnt really know they were a couple until you saw them in the scenes at home, if I remember rightly. That's the way to do it. They were I guess the main couple in the show, but it wasnt shoved in your face, you just saw the odd scene of them at home. I am thinking back about 25 years here though !!

I agree I wouldn't like if they are together at the beginning of the series, even more, I don't think they'll do that, I don't think they miss the opportunity of a good storyline like this one, getting them together is definitely some of us (not all though) want to watch. I think we deserve a visual explanation and afterwards they can do whatever they want, I'll be happy (ever after Tongue).

I hope they show how H/R get together, but I would also be happy if they are already in a relationship at the start of season 9. I think it may depend upon the amount of time (in the Spooks world) that has passed since the end of season 8 and the beginning of the new one, if it carries on almost immediately from 8.8, we may be in for some angst.
