All Americans are from New York or Texas.

White vans are only useful to Soccer moms and terrorists.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

So true A Cousin. Do tell ... are you from New York or Texas? Which is it because none of us know the names of anything in between. It would be terribly inconvienient to be from somewhere else!

RE: Things I learnt from watching Spooks
Funny allanah! I lived in NYC for several years and now live in New Jersey just outside of NYC. But to be completely inconvenient, I am originally from the American Midwest which is a whole different dialect. I keep waiting for a good old Midwestern accent in Spooks but never get it. ;-) They all sound like Tony Soprano or Larry the Cable Guy. We are just as bad to ourselves. There is an old joke that the map of the US from a New Yorkers POV consists of New York City, nothing, Chicago, nothing, then Los Angeles.

I have to say though, it does go both ways, I am not sure I could name anything between, for example, London and York. Except maybe Lincoln but only b/c I have visited a friend in The Fens. I could certainly not discern regional dialects. Getting better with the Yorkshire though, thanks to Harry!

So we live, we learn, and we try to get to know each other a bit better.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

If they'd only listen to the analyst, every problem would be solved within 15 minutes, as the analyst is always right.

Not all of us - I have a much better sense of US geography than I do of British! And I can name about 46/50 of the US states. It's a memory test I use when I'm bored in meetings - see how many US states I can remember. After I've done that and got stuck on 46 or 47, I try to name all of Shakepeare's plays, or have a go at all of the Star Trek original series episodes. That last one's for really long, boring meetings...Suicida

Well, I'm impressed! I am not sure I could name all of the states in the US. At least not without a blank map in front of me. And I have been to all of them in my time except Hawaii. We all have to memorize the states and their capitals but, you know, garbage in/garbage out....Angel

It's a shame we don't need to do that for British geofraphy in our schools. That's why I couldn't immediately point out Leeds on a map...and I've only a vague idea of where Shropshire is.
