I guess in the UK, it's pretty long time to spend on a TV show, especially one as unpredictable as Spooks. And I certainly don't blame Hermione for wanting to seek out different parts, you never want to be pigeon-holed into one type of character.

To me though, 4 years is nothing on a TV show, I mean lots of actors on US television have stayed on their respective shows for way more than four years. Kiefer Sutherland was on 24 for 8 years, most of the Stargate SG-1 cast was on for 10 years, Numb3rs cast was on for 6 years, NCIS cast are still going on for 8 years, Supernatural and Criminal Minds are going on their 6th year as well, and daytime stars in soap operas have spent as many as over 35 years on one soap opera. So I guess to me, 4 years is really nothing, and considering that US television tends to run much longer (over 20-ish episodes) than UK ones (around 11-ish), it really doesn't compare when it comes to length. Smile

I am really excited for the new series though! I'm already having panic attacks over Lucas's storylines! EEEKKK!ConfusedVueltasss

Well, the Biz of the Biz is different in the UK than it is in the US. Simple geography plays a part but the culture of what is accepted is different.

An actors ability to move back and forth between stage, TV and film is much smoother in the UK, partially because the biz is primarily located in London. This opens up more opportunities for work in general thus more movement between jobs. In the US, while there are exceptions to the rule, for the most part, stage work is in New York and TV/film work is in California with 3000 miles separating them, literally and figuratively.

I believe that the disparity in the pay scale between the mediums is also less wide in the UK than in the US, but I could be wrong about that. When a US actor gets a TV or film gig, they are making a lot more (A LOT MORE) money than they would on stage. It is big news when an TV/film actor plays Broadway in the US where as in the UK, no one blinks.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet

You're not gonna get any disagreements from me. It was what I was trying to say. US and UK is different.Smile

Which is why I was saying that I viewed Hermione's 4 years on Spooks in a different way. In US, it is not very long when most TV actors stay on for even longer than 4.

Yeah, I never could quite understand why people make big deals with actors from TV go to Broadway, some of the most brilliant and amazing actors that I adore came from Broadway backgrounds and does lots of Broadway shows.Wink I wish these views would change. I like the UK views better.
