RE: [spoilers] Hermione Norris/Ros
Oh come now really there is no need for that she is an award winning actress. I think we should all agree to disagree because no one likes the same things

RE: [spoilers] Hermione Norris/Ros
My first thought when Harry offered Ros a job in Section D was: "You'll never have her loyalty because you've taken away her father." Hermione Norris, as I think someone else in this thread has pointed out before, is something of a go-to resource for characterisations of brittle women who are keeping a lid on their lack of emotional equilibrium. For a while there, it looked as though this was all Spooks was asking her to do, just without giving her an in-show husband to serve as the means of her doom. What actually happened was much more interesting, and allowed the actor to explore other, subtle, areas of her range. It never occured to me that she was bored in her performance, or that she is limited in her ability.

Ros was probably quite a tricky character to play, if only because so much of what there was about her that anyone (including the viewer) was allowed to know was kept so far under the surface calm by the character herself. The shock of Ros' actions in destroying the hotel room in 7.2 is as substantial to her as it is to the viewer because it seems such a not-Ros thing to have done. Even at the same time, that response makes us realise that we don't really know what a not-Ros reaction is. That element of unknowingness, I thought, kept the character compelling and intriguing.

RE: [spoilers] Hermione Norris/Ros
I'm not particularly an HN fan, and I have no axe to grind, but I can't help raising an eyebrow that anyone would think that she can't act! I have disliked, grown to like and then loved Ros's character over the course of the series. all in response to the way she has been played. HN does full justice to the part. I far prefer a subtle performance to a hammy one, personally. I think it treats the viewer with some respect for their intelligence.

And I know everyone's being terribly polite about everyone being entitled to their own opinion, but I would say that if your opinion is that a good actor is a bad one then you are just wrong!!

Sorry Silba

Funny how characters affect everyone differently isn't it.It took me a while to warm to Ros but after the scene with the needle I adored her and miss her alot.I found her to be a great leader far better than Lucas who seems to be much more liked ( maybe more by females?)
Her relationship with Harry was always intriguing to me also and we all know about how she felt about Jo even though few words were used.As for her being a poor actor I do not agree as I thought she played every episode very well and was very believable.

Zaf: Shouldn’t you be in prison or something?
Ros: This is the something.

I agree, she was definitely a better leader than Lucas. I was really sad to see her go Sad Her relationships with her team were fabulous, I always found Ros to be a very intriguing character. I'm interested to see this scene with the needle now; I need to resume my watching of series 1 through 6!

Gah! There is something so off about the implication that the interest of a female viewer can be sustained only by copious servings of superficial pretty. What's your explanation for the number of females on this board who rave about, and provide sustained and exacting character analysis of, Ros and Ruth? What's your justification for dismissing all the analytical effort evident in other threads regarding Lucas' character, motive, context and expression? Are you just assuming it's all hormonally charged because silly women can only like a character they like the look of?

Maybe you didn't mean to come across as judgmental in this way, but the tone of your pronouncement makes it difficult to extend the benefit of the doubt. I don't usually rant about other forum users, so I'm sorry you have got in the way of this. But maybe you should consider equally what you say and how you say it.

RE: [spoilers] Hermione Norris/Ros
sorry to bother you so much binkie ,i have only read portions the the posts on this site and in MY opinion i saw alot of people referring to Lucas as a hot male which as a male i don't see it. I also saw a fair amount of people who didn't like Ros so it was only a casual comment of my opinion that Ros was a far better leader and I far preferred her to Lucas.I was implying nothing but thanks for assuming what I felt and that you actually know me.

Zaf: Shouldn’t you be in prison or something?
Ros: This is the something.
