Series 10 Rumours & Speculation

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
I think if they were to do a last scene of Spooks, it should always end with Harry and a flashback as he remembers all the agents he's had and lost over the years. That would be the best ending I can think of because then, the ending is honoring all of them, all the characters that have graced our screens. Smile

That sounds like it was lifted from the LOST ending lol. I've always said that Spooks should end with something dramatic like Harry dying or a nuclear bomb going off in London (see what I did there? Wink).

Well, Lost wasn't the only show to end with flashbacks of the cast nor will it be the last, and in any ways, I still think it's fitting. Harry can die and before he falls unconscious, have his life flash before his eyes or something and he sees his agents and the people most important in his life. If they can do it right without it being over-dramatic and sappy, it can have a lot of impact and power, it can tug a lot of hearts. Some of those ending montage flashbacks are the best stuff of a show.

Nuclear bomb eh? And here I thought Kudos was trying to run away from that legacy....Silba

That would be a great ending. Happy, good and funny things he remembers about each of them. (There is enough upsetting things in this world without giving Spooks a horrible ending.)

Yup! That would be cool.

I mean, I was watching my daytime soap opera General Hospital, and one of the best scenes they did was mob boss Sonny Corinthos being stabbed and tied up to weights and dumped into the harbor and as he's drowning, the music cues and we hear heartbeats as he flashes through images of ex-wives, his kids, lovers, his mob enforcer who is his best friend, and the police commissioner's niece who's like a little sister to him. It was a powerful scene and as his heartbeat races, the images flashes even faster until it all stops.

That would be rather cool ending if Harry were to die.

And it would be nice tribute to all the characters and great to see them all one last time. After all, every one of these characters, good or bad, has made an impact on the Grid, on this country, on Harry, and on us, the fans.

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Not to be a miserable cynic, but should we really get any sort of emotionally uplifting ending? This is a show that is quite willing to have Harry stand in the Home Secretary's office and say to him: "We cannot win the war on terror. Ever."

I know the point of the dramatic set-up is to establish a succession of brave individuals and necessarily hidden triumphs (as well as a couple of acknowledged ones). But isn't there, equally, a dramatic tension that accepts this is something which goes beyond the lives and influence of the characters we know? Those people die, or move on, and there will always be a need for someone else to do their jobs. Shouldn't the end effectively be someone else sitting at Harry's desk (or, possibly, at another desk if London has been rendered uninhabitable by fallout)?

Well, I wouldn't exactly call Harry dying and seeing the images of all his agents that he's failed to save as very emotionally uplifting...Silba

But I still think a flashback montage should be included. Then maybe the scene then cuts to a new person at Harry's desk, maybe a new team, ready to start a new day, beginning a new generation of Spooks.

Ha! Maybe it's my Presbyterian background that makes these kinds of endings seem like a sort of well-done-for-watching nod to redemptive potential. I probably shouldn't be so quick to suggest a downbeat ending. This certainly is a show that could deliver a seriously miserable coda. Maybe flashback montages are the preferable option Wink

I wouldn't like to see Harry die at the end (my opinion only), but if the end was someone else sitting at his desk, then that says it all. MI5 goes on...as it must.

RE: Series 10 Rumours & Speculation
Flashback montages are corny and overused. Spooks is a show that has always done things differently and I would hate for it to get a cliched ending.
