I thought he was Australian? I know that Interpol has sent out like alerts for his arrest.

According to the BBC, his name is Julian Assange and he is currently believed to be in the UK. He is apparently Australian by birth.

The BBC Wrote:Swedish authorities have issued a fresh arrest warrant for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange following a procedural error with the first.

The detention order for Mr Assange, who is believed to be in Britain, concerns alleged sexual crimes during a visit to Sweden in August.

Well I hope someone finds him and punch him. He is a stupid man.

But at least it could make an interesting idea for a Spooks episode!

Stupid men don't have the capacity to hack into government databases Wink I actually think he's doing a good job. Some of the information he's releasing is unnecessary, but some of it is actually quite important. The USA being asked to bomb Iran? The Russian Mafia supposedly funding the government? China hoping to have more influence over Korea? Lots of potential for interesting plots here!

Just because someone can hack into government databases doesn't mean he isn't stupid. As far as I'm concerned, he is a nuisance and an idiot, and one day he's gonna get himself killed and I will laugh.

I'm all for governments being truthful and people knowing the truth, but some things are kept secret for a reason and especially in matters of delicate diplomatic situations, operating in secrecy is the best way to ensure a country's survival. What he has done is basically air out everyone's aces and harm how international diplomacy will be done. It's stupid and it makes him stupid.

While I'm sure it will give great story plots for Spooks to chew on, for the real world, more harm is done with this.

Oh no, I agree, some of the documents he has released really were best kept secret. But some of them are rather shocking - eg, documents detailing civilian deaths in the Middle East and such. I realise that some of the information is only going to upset people, but at the same time... it's very scary just how much information is kept secret.

At any rate, what's done is done... and people will just have to learn from the consequences of it Tongue

I sometimes feel like a true spook because things just don't surprise me anymore. I mean, the civilian deaths in Middle East is hardly shocking, we are fighting a war, deaths whether military or civilian was bound to happen, I'd be shocked if they didn't happen or were kept secret. And I can't be shocked either that a lot of info are kept secret, maybe I've watched too many spy/gov't shows to ever be shocked anymore.

Yeah, that he will have to learn what happens when he crosses a line and pisses off most of the world.

I'd actually think it would be incredibly awesome if they use the Wiki-Leaks into a Spooks storyline.

It's the extent of the cover-up which shocks me though. I know America want to garner support for the war, but the extents they'll go to in order to do it do surprise me. I've been living in a horrific world of ignorance and naivety! Undecided

If anything, at least it's taught people not to believe everything they read in the paper or see on the news.

See my point is that I'm not surprised by the extent of the cover-up involved, governments have been doing it for centuries, America is not the first nor the only one nor will it be the last. The lengths that sometimes governments will go to ensure secrecy is very very far, especially if they want to win the fight, to ensure their country's survival. I'm just not surprised anymore.

Some things are simply meant to stay secret and we might as well get use to the fact that governments will never tell the full truth, and to be honest, I'm not sure the average citizens are ready to handle all the full truths anyways.

There's multiple sides to every story. Nothing is black and white.

Back on topic about episode ideas, this is inspired by me watching sci-fi movies, but what if say the UK is doing some space piloting stuff and the terrorists try to blow up a space launch, and then our Spooks have to go in and save the day?

Guys, it's fine to use Wikileaks as a jumping off point. but if you want to discuss the affair in greater detail it might be time to start its own thread.

Please try and keep this thread for episode ideas.
