I hope Spooks trounces Downton yawwwwn Abbey this sunday! It being the very last one, I think they have a good chance.

She stood in tears amid the alien corn...."

The best of the Season but I was hoping for a bit better for the finale.

Final viewing figures for Season 10:

E1 4.62 - - 5.63
E2 4.15 - - 5.12
E3 4.34 - - 5.15
E4 4.47 - - 5.31
E5 4.38 - - 5.27
E6 5.13 - - 5.95

Figures are in millions. Left hand one is overnight and right hand column is BARB adjusted figure after those who recorded it watch.

Respectable but overall down on last year without question due to clash with Downton Abbey. The significant number of casual viewers will have opted in the main for it.

Had Spooks aired on Monday or Thursday I am convinced it would have added another 1m to the totals but who knows?

Still a mystery why the BBC chose the slot they did.

Interesting that the lowest figures were for E2 - which was my fav episode of the Series!

Not so sure DA was the only cause for the drop for those final numbers. (Although I do agree it was daft scheduling) Spooks fans would have found it/recorded it. Plus it got a rerun during the week and in the age of sky++, it doesn't matter so much.

If we take our minds off the controversy of the series finale, we may recall the furry over the S9 ending and the farce of the Lucas is John storyline. I do believe this lost Spooks a few hundred thousand fans at least going into s10 who had lost faith in the show/the new writing team and weren't prepared to give s10 a chance. Which is a shame but clearly shows an audience will vote with their feet. (Or remote control, in this case.)

This thought occurred to me as well. I am pretty sure that Spooks lost a lot of viewership after S9 for the reasons you mention above. I was curious to see how much that seemed to affect overall ratings for S10.

Looking at a slightly bigger picture, while the numbers were down 1M compared to S9, S10 had an overall average viewership better than both S8 and S7, and missed S6 by only 160,000 viewers.

S10: 5.41M
S9: 6.33M
S8: 5.36M
S7: 4.77M (Shame b/c, IMO, that was a fantastic series!)
S6: 5.57M
S5: 5.97m
S4: 6.05m
S3: 5.77m
S2: 7.19m
S1: 7.49m

All things considered, I still think it held it's own and was not nearly as affected by DA as I thought it would be.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet

RE: Series 10 Ratings
I'm glad AC posted the numbers from other seasons because I have been looking at them a lot these last 3 weeks as I do my re-watch. Seasons 4 and 7 should have rated a lot higher yet season 9 did brilliantly despite being the weakest season of the show overall, I think.

I also agree with loladom about people switching off after season 9. We certainly lost a lot of readers after season 9, some of them really good members. And I admit to being very angry myself. Which is why the mostly excellent season 10 was so pleasing.

RE: Series 10 Ratings
TV viewing figures in general have been dropping on a yearly basis for some time now.
