RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Interesting episode - loved the HS driving past the pub called the red hearing towards the end.

Some what surprised that the CIA imposter saying hes from the SAG - the CIAs own military side who work in places like Afghanistan not attached to embassys in the UK.

Would have though Dimitri as ex SBS would have twigged that this wasn't kosher as would Jim Coaver.

Anyway, Elena just has to be at the centre of all this - it's the only explanation that makes any sense.

I suspect that some one in the KGB actually broke her back in the day and is a member of some hard line faction using her to destabilize Gavrik /

or maybe Gavriks Tortoise is the secret mastermind behind it all - ok ill go and lie down and take my pills now ;-)

For a few minutes I thought the whole milk bottle thing was some sort of cold war spy communication/dead drop thing.

Took me a little while to realise it just meant he knew he wasn't coming back.

Harry RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Loved, loved, loved this episode. So very glad there was no threat of the week and that it was all Coaver/Gavrik.

Ruth - she did a field op and made it out of the embassy in one piece. Yay! Of course, I knew there was someone waiting in her car, only because I desperately wanted to see the scene of her and Harry at his house, and I knew I wasn't going to be lucky enough to see that. The scene with she and Harry in his car was probably one of the most honest conversations they have had, which made it all the more brilliant. She admitted to guilt and jealousy, he owned up to feeling guilty and admitted that it looked like love, which it wasn't.

Still not sure if it's Sasha or Ilya behind all of this, or whether Ilya knows that Harry is Sasha's father. In a way it makes sense that it is Sasha, and that to discover the man he has been trying to destroy is his father could push him over the top. However, Sasha doesn't seem like he's bright enough to have obtained the code information needed to impersonate Harry on his own, which makes me think that Ilya is either behind it all or working with Sasha.

As expected, the final Ruth/Harry scene made me cry. I have to believe that these two will end up together or I think I will be so disappointed in the series. Pathetic on my part to say that since this series was never intended to be about a personal relationship, but it's out there and can't be ignored.

I'm of mixed feelings about next week as well. I really really do want to see the next episode but once I do it will be all over. Man, do I need a life (though Spooks makes this one more fun!)

Ros: "This is the something."

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
I am so with you about the H/R relationship. I really feel for the actors and the fans who have waited 9 years for a positive conclusion to Harry's and Ruth's love story. We have suffered through so many nude scenes and passionate kisses involving the Section D agents over the years that it is pathetic and unfair if we get only two "pitiful" kisses between Harry and Ruth in 9 years. But at least, now, they know about each other's feelings. We might have to settle for that.

Despite what Ilya believed about Harry's lack of love in his life, he was wrong. Harry was lucky to have found such a loyal and loving "partner" in Ruth. I am surprised that Ilya did not know about Ruth and about Harry's reconciliation with his daughter.

I really do not know what to think about the Gavrik family and the plot to destroy Harry professionally and personally.

Series 10 Spoiler: show
I think that Harry is starting to realize that Elena and perhaps Sasha is guilty. Why did Sasha bug Harry's car? Who is going to die? I am afraid that a stray bullet will hit Ruth. The dream of Harry and Ruth to retire together might not happen in spite of the fans' wishes. Where does Tom fit into the drama? We have not seen him.

It was such a great episode. The last episode is going to be even more dramatic and exhilarating.

Holy f*ckin' sh*t!

I think I said that 4 or 5 times watching that. I don't ever know where to begin. Except to say that I should have taken Wylie's advice and not watched next week's trailer. Confused Exclamation

Rather than talking about it I think I'm gonna go watch it again. Cool

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
OMFG!!!! What an episode! It was almost like a movie.

This is the first ep this season that has truly had me on the edge of my seat like the old days. They concentrated completely on the main plot and didn't feel the need to half heartedly tag on a threat of the week which is where ep3 and 4 went a little off beat.

Sooooo much in it, I need at least another couple of rewatches. H&R more honest than they have ever been. At first I was annoyed they'd made Ruth into a snitch which really goes against her character, but it was a good device to show her jealousy and make H&R have that conversation in the car and the phone call after the embassy.

The ep 6 trailer hints well at the unfolding Greek tragedy
Series 10 Spoiler: show
Right from the beginning I suspected there would be a father/son day of reckoning in this storyline and that Harry would face a his son/his country dilemma. It's coming....

As a side note, if they made it like this episode, they could do the odd 2 hour special of Spooks, but not of course if they kill off the main man!

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
This is my favorite episode. Liked the first, not so much the second and third, 4th was good but the 5th!!
I loved the phone conversation between Harry and Ruth. His line about his lack of tact showing that he's telling her the truth was hilarious.
- Harry: 'Ruth, I proposed at a funeral' and
- Ruth: 'yes yes you did, that's right you did' The way she delivers that as if reassuring herself of what a dolt he can be was just a lovely human touch and wonderfully showed how much they really love one another.
The trailer for the next episode looks EPIC. I dont know why but I get the feeling Elena's the guilty one. I mean, the comment about hearing the truth from Elena didn't go down too well with gavrik, I'm probably wrong though.... Can't wait to find out what happens but of course it'll be so sad when its all over.
At the end of the day please please please God 'long live Harry and Ruth'...

It was the wind Ruth...

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Absolutely loved this episode - it's certainly in the top 2 or 3 I think I've seen. The acting was great throughout (especially PF, NW, SRB, JH) and the pace never let up. The fact that they stayed with the one story throughout really made it, it meant they had the time to put in some calmer scenes without trying to cram 2 stories in. Yes there probably were plot-holes and unplausible actions, this is Spooks after all, but to me they didn't detract at all from the story, and for me as long as it keeps my attention on the first screening that's what I care about and this more than did that!

There were several scenes that stood out, most of which have already been mentioned. Tha scene between Ilya and Harry in his house was wonderful as he told Harry he'd known all along and pointed out exactly what Harry had missed by not extracting Elena and Sasha (I'm completely overlooking Harry's ex and his other 2 kids but that would just be too complicated) and what he'd gained. Ruth stealing the computer and Harry and Jim's showdown. Unexpectedly I also liked the Elena/Harry scene where, to me at least, he demonstrated what he later told Ruth, that it was guilt he felt towards Elena and not love!

Sasha finding out that Harry was his father was also well done, I think he knew beforehand but having it confirmed to him in black and white made him lose it - it'll be interesting to see how that effects his character next week, especially after the beginning when Harry mentioned to him about the fact he could have grown up British!

Harry and Ruth had some wonderful scenes, the scene in the car where they spoke so honestly to each other, the one on the beach and the latter phone conversation where she felt he was just using her as another asset were all really well done. You could feel both of their anguish that they felt, as they seemed to realise they may have missed their time again (though against the odds I still have a tiny level of optimism for next week - which probably means the entire cast will die!), I got the impression from Ruth's comment on the house in Suffolk that she hoped he would be there to share it with her!

Very much looking forward to next week - 85 hours down and 1 to go! I have a feeling tissues will be in order no matter how it all ends!

RE: Series 10 - Episode 5 Discussion
Brilliant and compelling watching.
Series 10 Spoiler: show
Wasn't sure about the milk bit that IW said was so telling but think that it meant Harry was just tying up lose ends ? Is the "tortoise" in the garden (Harry) being under estimated by Iyla - I hope so ! I have no idea now who is behind this and who is good or bad - great mis direction from the writers. I cannot see that the HS would allow the Head of MI5, with all the secrets he knows, to be deported to the US especially as the relationship with them is coming to an end. Loved the Harry and Ruth bits. Must watch the ep 6 clips again but now fear no happy ending for Harry and Ruth. Having shown them being together on the hill and the holding hands scene in the clips I think the ending will be very different. I don't think Kudos will have shown the last scene in clips already out there and the comments have already been "clever final twist" and "big bang ending".
