And I'm depressed all over again. That was a lovely little bit of sunshine as it gave me a mental image a happily ever after H/R. Good thing I watched it a couple of dozen times then.

Zaf: "Shouldn't you be in prison or something?"
Ros: "This is the something."

Maybe some enterprising souls downloaded it and will put it up again somewhere ?

Yes, I signed it. Could I please use your very interesting link to Spooks Finale: What makes a good spy?… (S.10, ep. 6)? It would be great. The author and I share the same point of view on the ending of episode 6 and she explains it much better than I do. That's why I like it! Thank you very much.

I could not have said it better.

Except they make this important distinction:

Quote:I musn’t grumble too much though. Ever since I plonked my 17 year old self down to watch Spooks for the first time nine years ago, I’ve been made to laugh, cry and shout at the TV screen, and on the whole been thoroughly entertained by what I’ve watched, no matter how often it went from the sublime to the ridiculous. I gather millions of others have too so all in all well done to everybody who’s been involved with the show for nearly a decade. We’ll all send you thank you notes in invisible ink.

A courtesy that you don't extend to Kudos/writers yourself, despite your enjoyment of previous series. I think my problem with the way you talk about never being able to enjoy Spooks again is because people who didn't like the ending and aren't being melodramatic still appreciate the show and all it has given to them.

The other problem I have with that article is that the author makes the point that they didn't like the ending because it resulted in Harry being a weaker spy because he had nothing grounding him in humanity. This is true, but the author then says they would prefer Harry to be stabbed and Ruth take over, because obviously she has a lot to lose and is grounded in humanity, NOT.

RE: Alternative Ending
I have to say I think Kudos missed a real trick here.

Would it have cost that much (monetary wise) to make a couple of alternative endings when they had all the cast together then they could have left it to the BBC to decide which ending they wanted to use - at the last minute?

Just think at the publicity this could have generated, though to be quite honest it seemed to me the BBC had already given up on Spooks by throwing it to the wolves pitting it against Downton Abbey which meant it lost a large numbers of casual viewers.

With two alternative endings Kudos would surely have gathered gold dust from the DVD sales.

RE: Alternative Ending
I don't like it when any TV shows or movies have alternative endings, it shows such a lack of confidence and conviction from the producers/writers and if that conviction isn't there then I can't really take a show/movie seriously because they are afraid of their audience.

A good TV show is not afraid of its audience.

Uh, yeah I think it would have. Also, why should the BBC be the ones to decide how it should have ended?
