Zaf Raza Jaffrey
Does anyone know the real reason he left? I have looked everywhere and cannot find out if he left on his own so he could join the cast of Mistresses, or if he was forced to leave and just written off. I would love to know if anyone was able to find out the real reason...

RE: Raza Jaffrey
Raza is now on twitter and tweeted a while back that he left the show of his own accord and to not blame the writers. It was in response to the black lash at the end of series 10 by some parties on twitter.

RE: Raza Jaffrey
I'm moving this thread to the actors/characters section, it is better suited to there.

What happened in series 10 that caused such an uproar about it? He left the show back in the 6th series. Also, thanks for the info.

RE: Raza Jaffrey
It was a general reaction about the high body count in the last few seasons, and people debated whether most of the actors asked to leave or whether the characters were written out on the writers' initiative. Zaf's death was included in the debate. It's impossible to explain in more detail if you don't want to be spoiled past the end of season 6.

RE: Raza Jaffrey
Caught Mr. Jaffrey in SMASH the other night. Truth be told, I watched it just because of him. He plays the supportive civil servant boyfriend of Broadway Baby wannabe Katherine McPhee. (Not *that* kind "civil servant". The character is a Press Secretary in the Mayor's office. Big Grin) It has been hinted that he is as dedicated to his profession as she is to her's so I expect conflict in the near future. He was adorable and wonderfully honest in the role. Hope to see much much much more of him. His character is one to which I can very much relate. Cool

As for the programme itself, well, it is a rather cheesy, mostly accurate (in a slightly stereotyped kind of way) depiction of the life of Broadway actors and the building of a Broadway musical. The cast in incredible: Jack Davenport, Debra Messing, Katherine McPhee, Christian Borle, Anjelica Houston and Brian Darcy James are all instilling it with honesty and conviction.

The dialogue writing and the handling of the ensemble aspect of it is good, but I am not sure how long this premise can perpetuate itself. Also, there is a lot on "insider" info that I am not sure will translate to those who don't live in or very near that world. Time will tell.

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

I saw the premiere as well, I loved to see him, he was so cute!!! I din't like "his girlfriend", a bit too perfect for me... I don't know, she's the character we should love, but I don't emphatize with her... Everybody is saying it's great, but I can't see it, yet, awesome cast, yes, I agree.

I love Jack Davenport's voice. (This last part is a bit off topic, sorry).

RE: Raza Jaffrey
That interview is great, thanks Tea Lady. Very interesting that Raza says he was supposed to come back and do a discovery episode about what happened to Zaf; that would have been great because I always felt his story was never fully concluded. Smash has just aired here in the UK , is it worth a watch for Raza or does he not feature much? Smile
