Harry Spooks movie?!?
I read on two different sites recently that there is a Spooks film in the pipeline but I have yet to find something that confirms this as actual fact. Anyone know anything about this?
Apologies if this has been posted before.

RE: Spooks movie?!?
i heard about this a while ago too but i can't think where! Not sure if it's been confirmed but IMHO i think they should possibly leave spooks at the end of series 10, the film wouldn't be as good without Ruth.

I agree. The only way I could tolerate it was for the writers to make the movie take place prior to Ruth's death. The whole thing sounds impossible to pull off.

RE: Spooks movie?!?
Peter Firth confirmed at the Peterborough Galaxy event two weeks ago that they were doing a movie which should start filming next year. He said it was nearly there, in terms of planning. He also said it will be a cinema release. I can confirm he said this as he said it to myself who was there and also to other fans over the weekend. I think he also talked about it at the Spooks talk he held on the Sunday morning with other actors from the show. I think there is a voice only recording of this on YouTube. I haven't got round to listening to this myself but apparently Peter said it will be set post series ten.

Anyway, until we get the official nod from Kudos, it's not a definite, but the fact Peter was talking about it so openly, surely means he was given the official nod to start talking about it.

I'm no expert in film production but I would imagine they have the funding in place ( and perhaps always did since series ten finished) and they are just sorting out getting directors and writers on board. I always said if they were going to do a film or mini spin off series, we would probably hear by the Summer, so fingers crossed Mystic Meg here, is right Smile

Sounds pretty definite then, i'm very jealous that you met PF too! Obviously i'd go and see the film but i just feel that series 10 was ended really beautifully with the memorial wall and everything and that it may be better to leave spooks there. However the film could have flashbacks i suppose in order to include other characters e.g. Ruth, Ros etc. But flashbacks aren't particularly 'spooks-esque'... I don't know.

RE: Spooks movie?!?
Well, until Kudo's announces it, it is really all just speculation on everyone's part.

Although it does seem odd to me for an actor to mention it with such apparent confidence without the blessing of the producers? Or at least an agreement that he does so at his own risk. Because if it doesn't come to fruition, there's egg on his face! Most actors won't mention anything until there is at least a solid verbal agreement or at best a contract. For some, it's even a bit of a superstition. Unless PF just doesn't give a fig on either count, which is certainly possible as well. So, there are lots of variables....

I personally waffle back and forth as regards whether or not I would like to see a feature film. I generally fall on the *like* side most of the time. On some level, a Spooks film sort of seems a natural progression to me. It was getting too big (thematically) for TV. Thus the reason I think it was time to put it to sleep on TV but would still be viable on the larger screen. A lot depends on who the director (Nalluri or Canton-Jones, please!) and writer(s) (Wolstencroft or Brenton, please!) will be.

If they do continue on to a Spooks film, I want them to move directly forward as they have always done. Otherwise, IMO, it risks becoming narcissistic pastiche. I suppose it would be possible to include the ex-officers that are still alive - Tom, Zoe, Malcolm, Beth and/or even Tessa - in some way, but I don't want them to look backwards other than to acknowledge the past in order to move forward.

That said, I would totally pay just to see Hugh Laurie's "Jules Siviter" and Simon Russel Beale's "William Towers" knock heads! Just a suggestion.... Wink

Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet [Spooks];
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

~Wm. Shakespeare, Hamlet

RE: Spooks movie?!?
I'm a little apprehensive too about a movie but then I guess I've always worried that each new series wouldn't be well received, and they always have been. People have kept watching. I agree it's a sort of natural progression and they are doing this with Luther too, I think I read.

Can they do a film without mentioning Ruth at all, probably not, but I don't want dream sequences and the what not, just to shoehorn Nicola Walker back in there.

They surely have to move forward with an action based storyline to appeal to the mass market. I assume that's what their intention is? Rather than make some artistic complex Le Carre type film??
