LOL!!

I think that goes a long way in explaining why he is so well respected by everyone.

Yeah, he really didn't hold back, even early in his career. That "doing the right thing" ethos that he has goes very deep and must have been developed when he was very young.

That ethos is just as important as having the right skills set and physical fitness in my opinion. Knowing when to stand up and say something's wrong can't be prized too highly.

Which is the diff between Harry and Oliver Mace. Mace has the right skill set but none of the empathy or willingness to buck the status quo.

RE: [spoilers] Harry's Diary
Harry's Diary was a book published by Kudos as an accompanying piece to the show. It essentially provides backstory to Harry before the show started in 2002.

It's a great read, for the most part well written and worth buying. You can get it from the UK amazon store in the Spooks shop, the link to which is up at the top far left of the navigation bar. The forum is helped by you buying stuff from the shop link there, as a small part of the proceeds go towards the costs of running it.

There's lots of other good stuff there too, but a lot of us feel Harry's Diary is one of the best.

RE: [spoilers] Harry's Diary
Thank you so much for that - I will check it out straight away. This site has opened up a whole new vista for me into Spooks. Only discovered it a year ago, so have been trying to catch up since. Am nearly there now, so will, hopefully, be able to contribute to some of the discussions.
Thanks again!

You're very welcome - and that goes for coming to the forum! There's lots of threads for new people, including the "Tell Us Something About You" thread in the Break Room.

RE: [spoilers] Harry's Diary
Bloody hell! I didn't realise Harry's brother died as well. Between his mother, friend Bill, his brother, Archie, Amanda & their kid, and all the officers that died since season 1, Harry must have attended more funerals than most. Now I feel really sorry for him, how much grief can one person handle before they are permanently scarred by it? He seems to attract death - now I'm suddenly very scared for Ruth...

RE: [spoilers] Harry's Diary
Oh dear, don't even think about a similar fate happening to Ruth! I don't think Harry needs any more death, and I now know from personal experience that Spooks fans don't like Ruth dying Wink (But is she dead? Tongue)

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

RE: [spoilers] Harry's Diary
That's why I think it more poignant that Harry lives, because he sees all these broken lives behind him. There comes a point where there are too many deaths.

Now that you've passed it Silktie, I find those entries in 1996 about his son and when he goes off at them all in that office very, very sad. Probably the most tragic in the whole book.
