Storylines for series 9

RE: Storylines for series 9
They've ignored past UK elections over the course of the show, but I think it would be interesting to pull that into the show.

There was an oblique reference to the US election of 2008, in 7.5 Harry speaks to Ros about '[there] being a new resident in the White House.'

Many thanks to Tyger for a terrific signature

Yes a story about the election would be interesting but I think Kudos would have to be a bit careful with a storyline like that and may not get approval from the BBC. I guess it depends what the storyline is though.
I would imagine that there are going to be a few scenes which Kudos can't yet film, until after the election result, to keep the series up to date.

RE: Storylines for series 9
I think the show should recognise that there is a new government in power at least. They've done an election story before using a fake party similar to the BNP (anyone remember the name of it?) and I thought that was a very good episode. MI5 bringing down a corrupt party from the inside.

YES! That was it, thanks TL.

So I think using a storyline similar to that would be good and it's always interesting to watch the team battle with the morals of whether they work for the party or the government.

True they have ignored past UK elections, but those elections have kept the same party in power, this time around there is the distinct possibility that the Conservatives could win, so it would be much better, more realistic and (as you say) interesting to include the elections in the new series.

And I second the idea of "more Lucas with his shirt off..." Angel

Thanks BoHenley.

True that an internal threat could fit in with the ultimate betrayal.

I have read all posts, but can't remember if it has been suggested that the ultimate betrayal may not be so much personal but rather organisational. Maybe with a new Government & HS the Government does something that is a betrayal of the Security Services. Just a thought, though it is most likely personal.

I have a horrible feeling that finally, after 8 seasons, Harry finally gets his end away...and then the producers kill him off because Peter Firth's getting too expensive.

But then, I'm cynical enough to be a spook...

thoughts?

"Where's Harry?"
"Moving in mysterious ways."

Hmm I still maintain that having one of the Nightingale people turning double agent for Section D would be a twist and a half Tongue

An Agent who ultimately betrays them would be a great twist (even from MI-6), but I think Nightingale is "SO last series." It was underdeveloped at the time, why drag it on? Bring on something new! (Exception: Lucas with his shirt off)

"Socks off" Lucas would be something new Wink
I wonder how possible it is to predict story lines for S9 when there is so many new characters... of unknown character!

I note that some have suggested Lucas will assume the position of section chief when Ros departs - I'm not sure it would be wise for Lucas to be given this role, considering his still relatively recent traumatic past and poor judgment with Sarah. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict a new character takes the role of section chief! If Lucas wants this position, it would be a further element of tension between him and Harry that could be played out throughout the series.
