New Doctor Who Discussion

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
A lot of my friends said he wouldn't be anywhere near as good as DT but I thought he would be as I liked him in Ruby in the Smoke and I have indeed been proved rigjt.

The episode had such great energy and the young Amy Pond was really good too, really hoping they are all going to have similar amounts of energy!

HARRY:What did you say?

*has a bad case of new Doctor Who envy*

OH why can't they broadcast the new eps in the UK and Australia at the same time? We're part of the commonwealth, surely that should count for something!

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
To all you naysayers, some of whom have already posted positive comments:

I BLOODY TOLD YOU SO.

One episode does not a series make, and Moffat is the first to point out such a thing, but as someone who has worshipped him as an endlessly creative and thrilling writer for almost ten years, I have faith.

The show has some lovely nods to Who-history (the new showrunner is as much of a geek as Davies was, if not more) with MS' new outfit and the sexy new TARDIS, while being really new in its storylines. I love a mad man with a box, even if I could see that joke coming from ten feet.

(He's endlessly creative in all the right places, before you say it.)

I think the MS using the same intonation at some points like Tennant may well be deliberate. I am so excited for more. And soon.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I liked The Beast Below, MS and KG were very good and we are starting to see the differences between MS's Doctor and David Tennant's. I liked the fact that Amy saved the day while the Doctor was too mentally blinkered. Looking forward to the Dalek episode next week.

Yeh I began to see the difference between them too and I liked it. Don't think we've seen the Doctor that angry before..

Really enjoyed the storyline, but the actress playing the Queen was disappointing. Did anyone else notice the easter egg in this episode? Something which refers back to Series 2?

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I liked the friction between Amy and the Doctor towards the end. I was slightly concerned that after last weeks ep that Amy would be like Rose and Martha in worshipping the Doctor, but she seems to see his faults quite clearly.
I thought of you Nitrus, when Amy spent the entire episode in her nightie. lol.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
No I didn't see the easter egg, when was it do you remember? The Queen was disappointing, I'm not sure if it was her voice (not very regal) or just the way she played the character.
Really liking Amy, she seems a different sort of companian not too similar to any of the others but I do think she needs to mention her marriage at some point although I can understand that talking to churchill can be a bit distracting.
A little niggly thought that keeps going round my head here: Didn't Queen Victoria decide she didn't like the Doctor and so set up Torchwood who aimed to catch him? I thought that was the reason Jack got blackmailed into joining Torchwood because he'd travelled with him and why the Doctor was angry when Jack said he worked for Torchwood?

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
You're right about Torchwood, but because the Doctor can travel through time, they can do what they like pretty much lol.

The easter egg was a sign above the workmans tent over the hole that Amy saw. The words on the sign were the reference.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
I've just re-watched DW and I get the reference to Magpie Electricals. That was the episode with Maureen Lipman in the T.V, wasn't it? You must have eagle eyes to have spotted that reference, Nitrus.

I happened to like the actress who played the Queen, Sophie Okonedo. I thought she was a bit different and unusual casting.

RE: New Doctor Who Discussion
Thanks Nitrus, wow that was a good spot!

I liked Sophie Okonedo in Hotel Rwanda and she's alright in Stormbreaker but I wasn't sure about her in this (btw she's in Spooks as well, in series 2)
