RE: Matthew Macfadyen
I highly recommend Pillars of the Earth - Ian McShane is outstanding as Waleran Bigod & Matthew MacFadyen is fantastic as Prior Phillip. It really is well done and yes there are plot differences from the book but they each stand on their own merits IMO.

Canadian fans who did not see it on TMN this summer can look for it on CBC in the new year!

OH to be in Berlin....and yes I've already sent TygerBright the link Big Grin

"The Berlin premiere of The Pillars of the Earth will be held at the Sony Center in Berlin on 26 October at 7 pm.

Matthew Macfadyen is expected to be there as well as Ken Follett , Natalia Wörner, Rufus Sewell, Hayley Atwell, Götz Otto, David Oakes and Anatole Taubman."

I found it via the Matthew Macfadyen fansite.

Tyme4t, have you read the book? I did struggle with part 1 which was shown here last week on TV, although I enjoyed it enough to watch part 2. I though it was one of the best things MM has done post Spooks to be honest, although his accent was a bit of a problem for him. I just wondered if the book was better, although at 1100 pages, it seems a little daunting for someone like me.

RE: Matthew Macfadyen
Tea Lady - stick with the series! It does veer from the book in terms of some plotlines and I too found the first two hours of the series a bit disjointed but I think it's because they had to establish so much. There are so many amazing performances and the sets are incredible. IMO just watching Ian McShane get more evil & conniving each episode is worth it! Oh and "Hunk of a Monk" Matthew has some great scenes! Actually the entire cast impressed me.

And if you are patient enough...there is a scene in a future episode that will make you go - OMG that's like a scene from [spooks] series 8 Wink (let me know if you figure out what scene I am referring to)

The book was fantastic! Again, it took a bit to get into it, but it ended up being a great read! But wait til the mini-series is over because as I said there are some differences in plot lines and even some characterizations in the series. Enjoy!

Thanks tyme4t, I will do as you say. Yes, I have to agree that the scenery is fantastic. I think they filmed in Austria? Ian McShane is pure evil and I think it took me the two hours to get used to his curtain hair cut and to get over seeing him naked!!

Any Human Heart starts on C4 on the 21st November. It's in four parts and stars Jim Broadbent and MM. It's apparently based on the diaries of Logan Mountstuart. (I have to admit that I don't know who they are but the TV advert looked good.)

RE: Matthew Macfadyen
I hoping to watch Any Human Heart - out there somewhere on the net - Heaven knows if/when it would ever show in Canada. I've seen a few trailers and it does look intriguing. I'll be searching for it...

OH MM....I love your "...pudding face and cow eyes" Wink

My favourite part of the interview...what the fish & chips lady said about MM's new look...Big Grin
