[spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years.
We will never know who made the first move there, but the circumstances were totally different, and in Ruth's head was "I have to move on, and start from scratch", so I guess she jumped at the chance of moving on. Now she's back to her old life, and moving on is more difficult for her.

Your right in the husband thingo... that's weird, haha the real reason I still think is that she loved somebody else and marrying George would be a betrayal, although she believed she would never have her old life back... Ironic, isn't it?

Sorry about that Tongue I think this is like saying and trying to overcome the fact that parents are Santa.

I don't think Ruth herself ever referred to George as her husband. She does ask Mani what he did with 'her family', but it is only Harry who talks about her being married, and then later about George being her husband when they're walking on the bridge.

It's interesting, and I for one find it difficult to believe that Ruth had been with George for longer than a year or so. Knowing what we know of her, I can't see her jumping into the first opportunity for a relationship that comes along. Time-wise, she was gone for about two-and-a-half years, and I can easily see her taking about a year to get over Harry and decide to move on.

I've just thought of a way for HR to be interesting to me, if Harry started a public relationship with someone else, I do think it would be interesting to see how Ruth reacted to that and whether it would spur Ruth into doing something.

The balls been in Ruth's court for too long. That needs to change.

Not where Spooks is concerned I wouldn't have thought. When has Harry had any relationship other than this thing with Ruth?

I know the idea behind it is cliched, but it at least it'll break the monotonous cycle of "will they, won't they".

I think it wouldn't be very believable if Harry started a relationship with another woman here, after the proposal. Maybe a flirting relationship could be more credible... No, I'm not saying I'd like that!

See I don't see it as a "will they, won't they", it is a "will they" relationship but with some issues they have to overcome, mostly Ruth. Glad you joined the discussion, Nitrus, now we have a different perspective Smile (no, I'm not saying this ironically, I mean it).

Yes, but she doesn't correct Harry when he asks/says "You got married out there?" Ruth doesn't say no, she just starts talking about George. She let him believe she was married, for a short time anyway. Was she trying to make him suffer a little more at that point, if the guy wasn't already suffering enough? Was she embarrassed that she wasn't married to George? That she was still showing signs of being a commitment phobe.

Nitrus' point is interesting although it didn't seem to stir Ruth into action when Juliet appeared back on the scene. An ex appearing would surely be enough to get you to make a move? Anyway, if Harry was to get together with anyone it would probably be a one night stand, which Ruth would not find out about. I couldn't see Harry hurting Ruth by having an overt relationship, which is thrust in her face. Ruth did save Harry from going to prison for 20 years. You are kind of in debt forever IMO.

A relationship shouldn't be built on debt. And Juliet was never really interested in Harry in that way when she returned. I wouldn't want Harry to intentionally enter into a relationship to hurt Ruth.

RE: [spoilers] Harry and Ruth. The Wonder Years.
Series 9 NW interview Spoiler: show
"“There’s a little return to some of that. They’ve all paid a high cost, haven’t they?" This is what she said about the George and Cyprus thing, so perhaps we have some form of explaination to look forward to.

I think there has to be some form of elaboration on the whole George/Ruth thing. It is just a huge grey area in her past.

I do agree that there was never any indication that Juliet and Harry would ever have anything other than mutual respect between them again. It was very much a love/hate relationship between the two of them.

That's a good point, TL. Maybe at that point she already realised subconsciously that George and Nico was also in trouble, and it was a form of showing loyalty to them, her not correcting Harry. Also, they were in an incredibly stressful situation, so maybe it just didn't occur to her. OR, to her living together carries the same weight as being married, which I can actually believe from Ruth.
