Helen's Gruesome End...
I was suprised that the BBC risked airing this on a new show in its first season. It really brought home the fact that Spooks is a hard hitting program, not afraid to delve into the watery depths of realism.

I still cringe when I watch it lol.

What did you think about the scene?

I remember watching this when it was first aired and being quite shocked and it still makes me cringe too.....just the very thought of it!!! poor Helen didnt get the chance to show us what kind of Spook she would have made!!

Tbh, I doubt she would have done much more than Sam did. But it was certainly a shocking exit for such a new character in such a new show.

Just goes to show that Spooks has never been afraid to push the envelope!

Think that episode was what most certainly got me hooked on spooks!

Thats the way it should be....personally I love the shock factor ,just to see how far barriers will be pushed.....there are enough fluffy tv shows around it's nice to watch something gritty!!

Absolutely... you won't forget the shock factor in a hurry... they didn't even try to be sensitive about it.. just shoved her head in... dropped her to the floor and shot her in the head.. and then into the next scene!

Marvellous television!

Lisa Faulkiner should be toasted (pardon the pun) in the Kudos offices every time they talk about the success of this show. By killing Helen in the most shocking fashion possible, they basically set the tone for the entire show. Every time I watch it, I still find it terrifying. You can just see a bunch of writers tossing around ways to die, and what would be the scariest.

It definitely set the tone - a little graphic perhaps but I think that it was really designed to shock you, to move you out of your comfort zone.

DANNY - Placements all over the shop. Back up vehicles, chopper support if we need it. Bomb disposal with a signal jammer for Mary’s trademark remote control blasts. And Tom here’s doing the catering. Mate. You are so covered.

RE: Helen's Gruesome End...
It was the furore following this episode that made me decide to watch Spooks. I remember seeing the plugs for the new spy show at the time and I thought 'that looks a bit synthetic and showy; not watching that'. Never did I think it was a gritty as it was. As soon as I read about people complaining I watched it (episode 3) and totally fell in love with it.

So I knew about Helen's death before I finally saw the episode but I am more than happy to admit I was wrong in those very early days! And having watched some 24 from around the same time ('02), there's no comparison - it's Spooks 6-0 24!
