A poll carried out by LastBroadcast saw the demise of Lisa Faulkner's character in 2002 voted into the top spot by fans of the show.

Other character exits in the top five include Colin Wells (Rory MacGregor) being hung from a tree in series five, Ben Kaplan's (Alex Lanipekun) throat being cut, the car bomb explosion that killed Adam Carter (Rupert Penry-Jones), and Jo Portman (Miranda Raison) being shot by fellow team member Ros Myers.

Helen's death, which claimed 49% of the vote, also drew the highest number of complaints in 2002 to the Broadcasting Standards Commission.

That's true. I haven't seen it and I haven't been a fan that long but I have seen it mentioned a couple of times already.

Yes, it was shocking but I suppose the more so because we weren't really used to Spooks' ways then!

For me though the biggest shock was Ben having his throat cut by Connie. I hadn't heard he was leaving the show and it caught me completely by surprise. The execution of it really chilled my blood.

I think Helen's death is the one thing everyone knows about spooks, even those people who don't actually watch it, given all the press after the fact. That wouldn't be my first choice, though.

It definitely was one of the most shocking, but top Spooks death? There have been quite a few good deaths, as you previously mentioned, so it would be tight.

I wouldn't say it was the top. It was shocking yes but there have been plenty of others i think were better as deaths...

Danny's death is probably my most favourable choice for top spooks death.

It's hard to top. It set the tone for the entire series, and made it clear that Spooks wasn't going to be conventional.

It was definitely shocking, but I think it was more shocking for those who were familiar with the actor (Lisa Faulkner) who played Helen Flynn. Being in Australia I had no idea who she was, I was not aware of her popularity. Apparently the fact that Spooks killed off a popular actress at such an early stage in the series contributed to the shock factor.

Adam's death

was the most shocking; that was the first full episode I ever saw, and I really wasn't expecting it.

I know they kind of built up to it in the last fifteen minutes of the episode, but I was thinking that seeing as it was the first episode of a new series that he would find a way out
