ABC to remake Spooks in the USA!

RE: ABC to remake Spooks in the USA!
I wouldn't be at all interested in an American version of Spooks if they are just going to use the same plots but in the FBI/CIA/whatever. What would be more interesting (and original)is if the programme was from the point of view of the CIA agents based in the UK, with some of the core British characters playing their existing roles - in the way Christine and whatever her name was in the last series - do in our beloved Spooks. Now that would be worth watching!

Exactly, that was my question. If it is that, I would probably watch a couple of episodes to see what they do with it.

Of course, the really good news about this is that all you people Stateside are now much more likely to get regular viewings of Spooks the original, including seasons that haven't been shown there as yet.

I was going to rant about the idiocy of adapting British TV for the US market...but actually, Naivety's idea might just work.

"Where's Harry?"
"Moving in mysterious ways."

RE: ABC to remake Spooks in the USA!
Personally, as an American, I think it's an atrocious idea. But I will wait to see what approach they take.

The idea of "remaking" a series that's either currently airing or relatively recent has never sat well with me. And my love for Spooks is tied to so many different elements that I can't possibly see an adaptation having the same appeal.

Though I find it odd that ABC, the same network that dumped RPJ for Christian Slater (*really?*), are rebooting the show that made him famous. Heck, maybe they'll resurrect Adam and give him the lead role.....then replace him after the pilot.

*sigh*

Thanks Tyger!

This seems like a very bad idea to me.

Cousins, will you ever learn?!? Red Dwarf, Touching Evil, Life on Mars, LITTLE BRITAIN......!?!?
Some things are better left alone...

There was an American Red Dwarf?

Also, how will they be developing it? Is it still about MI-5 or will it be about the CIA or FBI? I'm confused as to what exactly they plan to do with the format.

Did we already have our Spooks? It was called 24.

That would be interesting to me, but I don't see it happening.

I never knew anything about it and now that I do, I'm going into denial.

I would be interested to see if this happens... some program cross-overs, aka doctor who / torchwood. There would be lots of possibility for this, given the anti-american imperialism slant in Spooks (Yalta, etc). I can imagine Juliet Shaw working on her anti-US schemes in the USA! Tom and Christine's security firm might have a base in America?! Where did Malcolm retire to? Florida? haha Wink

Please don't mention the US Red Dwarf pilot! You'll trigger my PTSD!
