Series 10 Casting Discussion

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I have to say that killing them off has become more frequent with the later series of the show. In the earlier series they had people decommissioned, exiled, faking deaths, transferred etc... nowadays they are all cannon fodder. I've been hoping this would change for a while as I liked the previous way of doing it more as it gave more room for surprise exits.

I'm not concerned about the turn over, just the method has now simply become 'they die'.

I have been thinking the same thing. After poor Helen in early S1 they didn't do it again until the end of S3. Right? After that, they were dropping like flies at least once a series. While it does set the challenge of making us care for the characters in spite of this expectation, still the unpredictable is becoming predictable. It is still possible to do something different.
Series 8 Spoiler: show
I suppose they kind of did with Malcolm. His exit was a breath of fresh air and brilliant in every way for both the character and the actor.

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
The fact that we all know they are willing to kill off well loved characters did make the scenes with Ruth in the last couple of programmes more tense.

Series series 9 Spoiler: show
After all, none of us were entirely confident that she would survive. Come to think of it we were not really sure if Harry would get shot or not at the end.

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I have no real opinion about Alec either way. He didn't jump out at me but just as similarly I didn't dislike him either. I think the Beth/Alec dynamic could be interesting if they bother to give Beth some backstory (along with Tariq and Dmitri).

I would love to see Tariq and Malcolm interact together. I think that would be really great but I don't know if Malcolm will viably be back. They really need more field officers rather than desk spooks at the moment. I also don't want to see Zoe or Tom come back. I don't really feel that they would fit into the show as it stands now.

On a completely wild and unrealistic note, I have always had a hankering to see Helena Bonham Carter with a part in Spooks. I'm not sure what kind of role but just any would do Tongue I agree that a strong female character would be great. I found myself missing both Ros and strangely Tessa even in various parts of series nine.

Oh and Towers should come back.

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I'd love to see some old school characters back, even for a few seconds.

My dream scene would be harry walking by the river thames, and see tom sitting on a bench or something, and they both make eye contact. Nothing even needs to be said.. That would be such an emotional scene lol! The only reference to tom was series 7, when lucas asked how he was.. I miss tom Sad

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
not sure if this is the right place to post this - sorry if it isnt. Just something that has been going round my head for ages and this maybe something that has been talked about and already dismissed but here goes. as series 9 came to an end I was convinced that it would be Malcolm who would turn out to be Lucus' / John's controler. I am sure that when Lucus visited Malcolm (i think in ep 7 ish but dont have the dvd so cant check) he called the then lucus 'john' and when it gave Lucus a bit of a shock Malcolm said it was just a simple name to use bearing in mind his mother might be listening. It all seemed a bit fishy to me and added to this isnt Malcolm the only one who really knows the whole Ruth Harry thing and therefore would be the only one who knew that taking ruth would force Harry's hand. not sure if lucus knew about them or i suppose he could have guessed maybe. I hope all my ponderings arent true but when lucus and harry had that talk in the big hanger sort of building in the last ep but one when lucus revealed his name and said there was someone much higher up that was controlling the whole thing. I was a bit dissappointed that this person was not revealed at the end but I feel they have to do it next series. just hope Malcolm hasnt anything to do with it. no idea even whether he is appearing in series 10! end of musings and sorry if this has been discussed already!

Interesting theory, williamser. Cool I also think that they were laying down about a million red herrings for us to follow to the proverbial dead end. But that is for another thread. I think there is an S10 "Rumors and Speculation" thread out there somewhere? Frankly, if it brings Hugh Simon back into the cast for S10, I would be perfectly happy with that. In fact, I was coming here just to post that very wish! Yahoo

So without further ado, I have two words for KUDOS - Hugh. Simon! Big Grin

I think the person Lucas was referring to was Vaughn, he had been controlling everything.

But yes to more of Malcolm in series 10 please. I was quite dissappointed in the small part he had in series 9. Malcolm and Tariq would be a brilliant team together.

I'm also hoping Malcolm will return. I can imagine some wonderful "old" vs "new" banter between Malcolm and Tariq.
