RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I think that guy Lucas framed when he stole Albany from the mainframe is going to come back and take over Lucas' job.

He seems more like a tech support person than a field officer, somehow I don't think he will be that significant.

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I have nothing against Alec staying onboard through s10. As many have already pointed out, they need some more experienced field agents, which they as of now have got about 0 of. From the casting POV he wouldn't be a bad choice for the new section chief. I just hope he gets to stay tough and crazy, because then he'll be fun. What I'm afraid of with this character is that they'll try to humanize him too much, give him a really tragic past, and have him struggle with alcoholism throughout the series.

If he doesn't get the job, I hope they get another female chief. Not Beth, because she's not experienced enough, but someone older and wizer. More like Ros, or a non-traitorous Connie or Tessa.
I don't see any need for a new "hot" male character, I rather hope they promote Dimitri to "leading action man" and give him more backstory. Hopefully we'll see ONE spook guy who isn't consumed by guilt and doubt. Tom was sad and torn, Adam properly traumatized, He-we-shall-not-name was all kinds of mental, and now we have Alec who seems to have an alcohol problem. Dimitri is so refreshingly normal, please let him stay like that.

That is my hope as well, I really want him to keep that cheery upbeat attitude. But every leading man seems to have some traumatizing issues, so somehow I fear he will fall into that rabbit hole too.Confused

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
Alec didn't pop out at me for some reason, I think I do need a rewatch of the whole series when I can bear it and albeit I wasn't really focussing on his character much I don't know he seemed more like someone you'd find on Eastenders then Spooks haha.

I hope the home sec is still in it, my favourite scenes and little chuckles to myself come from between him and Hazza.

The grid does seem so empty now. It seems like a lot of people have gone in a a short space of time and characters are either old (as in length of time on show not being ageist Tongue) or sparkly new and I guess they will have to bring in some more people to the sparse grid.

Dolby would be fab brought back I think! Section D does need its arse kicked back in to gear ( not that I belive he will beable to do this it will just be funny to see him try!)

Ditto that! I'd love to see another strong, female character on The Grid. Beth could grow into the role, but she's not really established enough as of yet. I really miss all the dry-wit that Ros brought to the show, so I'd love to have another character like her.

I'd also like to second the much needed development of Dmitri's character! He has a lot of potential, and I agree... I don't want him to fall down the old "troubled little boy" path. It's endearing and it seems to draw in hoards of women, but there's only so many times you can choose to develop characters in that way before it gets a little old Tongue

I'm not going to speculate too much on S10 casting though, because I get the feeling there'll be someone completely unexpected joining the team!

As for sticking to rumored/actual casting, well seeing as how we don't even know right now who is leaving and who is coming other than the possibility of Alec, there really isn't any casting to talk about except the hopes of a few that no strange storyline will change another character.

IMHO, one of Spooks characteristics has been a non normal Section Chief, i.e. someone with a personality angle that allows the writers to explore and play with in the series. A normal SC will not be good for the strength of S10 unless more space is given to other existing characters.
Apart from Harry and Ruth and their relationship possibly evolving, and eventually Malcolm returning (has anyone found why Hugh Simon left the series? dog-tired? other opportunities?) for more than just 1 minute appearances, I do not see anyone currently in the series strong enough to be SC.

I expect the casting team and writers are already working on a new lead for the team.... Another MI6 loan? Someone well known (Tennant, Nesbitt, Sean Bean)? who knows?

Personally, I'd love to see Jamie Bamber join the cast. Big Grin He's great looking and can act too. He he.

David Tennant or Sean Bean would be good additions too. James D'Arcy? Gary Oldman? Daniel Radcliffe? Tongue

And having a slightly left-of-center Section Chief perpetuates what has been the case since the beginning of Spooks: that Section D is a slightly rogue section of MI5.

RE: Series 10 Casting Discussion
I always thought the natural timeframe of Spooks would be 8 Seasons so to get 9 and 10 is a real bonus.

No disrespect to Vincent Regan but he is not quite the household name that either Rupert Penry-Jones or Richard Armitage is and you would have expected someone of their ilk to be Lucas' replacement.

If VR is staying on it could be that Kudos isn't that worried as it has already been advised that S10 is the final one.

Remember after S8 how we had that long and agonising wait before S9 was confirmed yet this year we had an "unofficial" confirmation even before S9 had started to air.

I just have a feeling that this could be the scenario - but then I also thought Ruth woudl turn out to be a mole in S9!!!

I would like to see a theme running right throughout the Season and less dependency on one character.

And please for the umpteenth time please develop Dmitri's character and give us some info about him!
